Richard.no Posted July 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking for a lens around 200mm for a Nikon D700 (for landscape photography). I've read that common R to F-mount adapters won't retain infinity focus. Is there another option or way to retain infinity focus on for example a R-mount 180mm? If that's so, what lenses are considered to perform well with adapter and on digital? I have no insight in the R-lenses, so a detailed description is needed. TIA. Best, Richard. wildlightphoto Posted July 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2009 Use a leitax.com conversion kit.
Guest PhotoWebb.co.uk Posted July 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2009 Use a leitax.com conversion kit. I am about to get my 50 and 90 summicron lenses converted by leitax.com for a review article that I am writing for travelphotomag.com. I will be reviewing the modified lenses on a D700 and will drop a note here once the article is ready. Daniel
glenerrolrd Posted July 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 4, 2009 The Leitax conversion is straighforward on most Leica R lenses. Their website shows the conversion process (which involves mostly just changing the mount). Go to diglloyd.com ( a subscription site) and see the results he gets using a Leica R 180/2.8APO on a D3X. The 180 apo is my favorite lens on my DMR so I didn t convert it. However I had the older 180/2.8 67mm lens (which goes for less than $500 used ) and converted it. Even the older 180 is sharper than any of my Nikkors (and I have the 3 ..Pro f2.8 zooms).

I understand there is a newer APO version that you mention, as well as older 180's. What would you suggest in the sub 1,000 dollar range? I have a digiloyd subsciption for ZF lenses, but as far as I know it's only limited to that part of the site - quite annoying actually, as I've never run into a site charging about $50 for limited access. I will check out leitax.com though and have a look of what I'm getting into...
