metalphil Posted July 11, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2009 Hi Kenneth Thanks for the link to the Ray Bidegain, I agree with you I wish my photography was at that standard. In my case its called work, and family ! I use an M6, working mainly in B+W but some colour as well, as long as we can buy film I see no reason to change. I am UK based have you thought of joining the Leica Society ? If you are interested I can send you the details of the secretary. Happy Leica hunting ! stunsworth Posted July 11, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 11, 2009 I found them pretty mixed, some excellent, others dire - especially some of the portraits and nudes. Oddly enough the ones that I felt succeeded the most were those where he seemed to be deliberately imitating a Victorian style, which doesn't fill me with confidence. Phil[/quote ]Phil I too use M6 cameras now totally for B&W since the demise of Kodachrome. I am however finding it very exciting and challenging, especially the darkroom part of the process and yes I would be interested to look at the information you suggest but I do not enjoy the best of health and that limits my activity. One thing that quite interests me is the usage of earlier lenses which would seem to bring a softer gentler image compared with my modern Summicrons which can at times produce an image which is almost too clinical. I am not sure that I have used the correct term there but I hope you understand what I am trying to say. I live in West Yorkshire by the way where are you located? Hi Kenneth Thanks for replying I am based in Birmingham, south side of the city, I have just returned from a business trip in Italy so am catching up on everything. I will send you details of the Leica Society, and in view of your comments above it could be of interest as there are some very knowlegable members about early Leica gear. I will do this over the weekend. Kind regards Phil.
metalphil Posted July 18, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 18, 2009 Hi Kenneth The Leica Society can be found at : www.theleicasociety.org.uk The annual membership fee is £30.00, there are 2/3 magazines per annum, and in the Spring an AGM usually on a Sunday this year it was held in Tamworth. there is an exhibition of members prints a talk by a guest speaker, and after lunch various trade stands all exclusively Leica selling both current, and discontinued gear. All in all a fun day if you are into Leica !! Kind regards Phil.
