sanqhar Posted November 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone seen this post on the UK Amateur Photographer site? Amateur Photographer & What Digital Camera: D-Lux 3 RAW file conversion warning I am new to this digital thing. Would someone clarify what this guy is saying. I am considering buying a D-Lux 3 and understand what RAW is. I understand "PS"= "Photoshop" so what is "CS" as refered to in "CS1"/"CS2". What does it do? Advertisement Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Hi sanqhar, Take a look here D-Lux 3 RAW file conversion. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Peter41951 Posted November 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2006 CS = Creative Suite (ie Photoshop plus other progs) CS2 is the later version. You can only use Adobe's raw converter for the D-Lux 3 in the later version as the plug-in doesn't work in the older CS. The camera is shipped with Adobe Elements 4 (a much simpler version of Photoshop CS) and the newer RAW plug-in does work with that. There are other RAW converters which you can use, and then export the result to CS or Elements 4. (Capture 1 or Adobe LightRoom to name but two.) sanqhar Posted November 11, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted November 11, 2006 Peter Thanks for the explanation. I got a bit lost trying to find whatever it could be on the Adobe site! If I could hijack my own thread. What would be a good RAW converter for an amateur newbe digital user?
Peter41951 Posted November 11, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 11, 2006 Tom If you get the D-Lux 3, it'll come with Elements 4. All you need to do is download the latest raw plug-in from Adobe's website follow the install instructions and you'll be ready to go. I don't know why Adobe didn't make the new plug-in function in CS.
candresen Posted November 12, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 12, 2006 Tom, I can highly recommend Lightzone (http://www.lightcrafts.com/index.php) instead of Adobe. Lightzone also reads D-Lux 3 Raw files without any conversion. Carsten
Guest stnami Posted November 12, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 12, 2006 I would highly not recommend Lightzone to someone new to digital, try your elements first as it will give you a nice default to start post processing. Lightzone has a few quirks and is back into beta mode, very nice little setup for B&W fine tuning though
olsuma Posted November 12, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 12, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, a possible way to work with Adobe CS and the new D-lux 3 raw is the usage of the Adobe dnc 3.6. You get this little Software free of charge at Adobe Website together with the raw-plus-in 3.5. It converts the raw-files lossless into Adobe .dng-files. These files could be used with the old Adobe CS. I have tested this with my D-Lux 3 on Macintosh. Happy converting, Olsuma
