Tenor1 Posted November 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please share your opinions on this model. An earlier thread mentioned possible issues with firmware and now I'm concerned. I just bought one but have the option to exchange for something else. This is an addition and upgrade to my D-Lux 2. I recently joined our local camera club and learning about photography-art and Elements 4. My camera use is totally recreational shooting a lot of aquariums in my home and at friends, general home and landscape use and portraits of our hospital volunteers at luncheons. All the problems with the M-8 has me concerned with "Leica." Please share recommendations with other cameras that would be a good for "all around" use. Thanks, Carlos Marques
Advertisement Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Hi Tenor1, Take a look here OPINIONS WANTED: V-Lux 1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MJLogan Posted November 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2006 As the V-LUX is a rebadged PanasonicFZ-50 with slightly more subtle noise reduction, you needn't be concerned about its Leica heritage. The FZ-50 has been around long enough fo its strengths and weaknessed to be well-known, and for the Leica firmware to mitigate the largest weaknesses a bit. Spend some time on the Panasonic forum at dpreview.com and you'll get the full range of opinion on the FZ-50. One thing that's not in dispute: the V-LUX-1/FZ-50 has a better lens than any of its compact superzoom competition. That's the Leica heritage. I hope to have mine next week and I'll report back when I work with it for a while.
