Hi all!

I am a newcomer here with just purchased LC-1.

Could someone post here or a link for LC-1/D2 +DMW-LW69 lens sample images, just to imagine on how wide it would be and optical quality of the bundle.I have seen a couple pics on the web ,not really impressed.maybe due to image web size.

Any idea about the price range for used DMW-LW69 wide lens?

The second thing i want you advise me is for the in-camera jpeg settings you used to shot with (sharpness contrast saturation)?

And the last one for those of you who have an experience on switching from LC-1 to D2. Is there a really big deal regardind IQ difference considering price gap..

Many thanks.

A few interesting pictures here:

Panasonic DMW-LW69 Wide Lens on my Leica Digilux 2 Timeblog

Thorsten Overgaard's page as a bit of discussion about the attachment.

Leica never offered the attachment... though did offer a beautiful close-up lens. Wonder what they knew that Panasonic didn't? Hmmmmm.....

On eBay, at least, the range is all over the map. I've seen them sell as NOS for as little as $125-ish and used for $350 and up ... it's all about supply and demand at a particular point in time. I forget exactly what I paid for mine there, but knowing that I tend to be cheap-ish, I assume it was closer to the former than the latter ... don't use it very much, either, as it's a honkin' big chunk of glass and not very convenient to carry around on the camera or off.

There is a noticeable difference if you shoot only in-camera .jpgs (with my preference being the D2) and a much less to unnoticeable difference if you shoot only RAW. It's a shame, too, as I prefer the LC1's all-black finish.

Re differences between the Lc1 and the D2.

This is really all quite academic anyway, most images are subjected to some form of post processing anyway and once the 'personal touch' is applied there will be a difference in the image to what came out a particular camera. So long as a particular camera gives the results your happy with then thats all there really is to it.

What is often not taken into any consideration is the manufacturing and component tolerances in any actual camera that can make a difference between same models even. So you will naturally end up with one camera in a range producing slightly differing results to another. Unless of course Leica rejects components that are not identically matched to each other for every camera in the range so you end up with every camera being totally and utterly 100% identical to each other. Who knows!

Hey... I'm not ashamed to admit it, I like the Digilux 2 for the Red Dot. LOL

There is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE in the image quality. There is a difference in the JPEG conversion as AudiAudi pointed out. Trust me, I blow that difference out of the water more often than not in post processing. All a matter of taste, really.

NOW... in a perfect world, I'd like a black Digilux 2 with the DMC LC1 grip, on/off switch and meter selection switch. Much better layout.

It is a great study in human nature though... the difference in reaction I'll get when walking around with one camera of the other. People see the Panasonic and are completely indifferent. They see the Leica and they raise eyebrows, make envious comments and "assume" I know what I'm doing. Fascinating really.
