wattsy Posted November 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica UK are typically slow (useless?) in getting the accessories for the M8 into the UK. Does anyone here know of a reliable source in Germany or the US who has either spare batteries and the grip (preferably both) in stock at the moment? Advertisement Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Hi wattsy, Take a look here M8 accessories. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted November 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2006 Ian, try Leica-Camera-Berlin, you can order online; I did but have put my order on hold until the M8 position is clarified.
michael friedberg Posted November 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 10, 2006 I was able to obtain last week both an M8 grip and an extra battery from Foto-Hobby Rahn in Frankfurt/Main. I do not know if they have any left in stock today.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 10, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2006 Anyone in the states that has them in stock. I really need the grip
michael friedberg Posted November 10, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 10, 2006 I'm in the States too. That doesn't stop me from sending an e-mail and having something shipped via FedEx. The European price for export is without VAT and therefore less than the US price (I paid 129 Euro which roughly is 168 US Dollars). With shipping and duties it might come out to slightly more, but not much. In my case they shipped last Friday and I received it on Wednesday --it should have arrived Monday or Tuesday but there's was a hang-up in Customs (FedEx's customs broker forgot to forward the paperwork). I also think the extra battery is absolutely critical. The charger is huge --way larger than it should be-- and difficult to travel with. The additional item amortizes the cost of shipping. Does anyone here know of a reliable source in Germany or the US who has either spare batteries and the grip (preferably both) in stock at the moment? This is one of my pet peeves! Importers/agents are notoriously lousy when it comes to support for high end gear. I always thought it was part of their requirement as an agent/importer to carry spares but in my experience (in Australia) they never have the support for reasonable replacements such as lens caps, batteries, PC plugs, and a host of 'small' items that are not really profitable. Try paying for them and wonder if it is profitable! Apart from the pressure currently being applied to Leica, I think at an appropriate time they should be pressured to "upgrade" their agents accountability, or whatever you may call it. Extra batteries for ANY digital camera MUST be treated as an essential. Any dealer not stocking these is derelict in their duty. Cheers, Erl
