smokndonut Posted November 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone determined whether it is absolutely necessary to have the 6-bit coding on lenses in order to utilize the IR filter correction, as stated in Leica's official (albeit translated) statement on this? Do I take this to mean that if I go out and purchase about $450.00 worth of 486 IR/UV filters to fit each of my four Leica lenses, it won't do me any good unless I also send in my four lenses to be coded?? Can someone please, if they know, verify this? I have the M8 since yesterday afternoon and I will wait for a firmware update AND buy filters to deal with this issue. But if I absolutely must send the lenses in for coding now in order for the filters to work, I need to think twice about the expense. Thanks in advance.........Karen

ho_co Posted November 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2006 Karen, I don't think anyone knows any more than you do so far. We're all wondering the same thing. That seems to be what the message says, but it also seems to be an interim solution, so getting all that work done may be necessary today but not necessary come January. On one of the threads someone said Solms will have an 'official' announcement come Monday 11/ 13. Of course, we also had the announcement that today's Leica newsletter would have details in it, but when it got here it didn't mention M8 problems at all. I'd enjoy the camera over the weekend and check in again on Monday. It has only been on the market for a week, and Leica is obviously working for a solution. Sorry I can't offer any more than you already know. --HC
