Christopher Nisperos Posted June 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Fellow Leica Users, This is my very first post here .. I've coincidentally joined today, on "Adieu Kodachrome" Day. I hope that's not an omen for my problem and that someone can help me! : Recently I took a chance and bought an M5. The previous owner has unfortunately kept the battery stored in the battery chamber for perhaps twenty years or more. Result? Corrosion down to who-knows-where ... Any idea if this battery chamber is replaceable or if this type of damage is repairable at all? Who does this sort of work --at a reasonable price-- here in Europe (I'm in France). Just so you know, I spoke to Gerard Wiener (Munich) this morning about the problem and he felt it was a lost cause. Thus, this post represents a last resort. Kind thanks! doubice Posted June 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 23, 2009 Hi Christopher, Are you sure that thorough cleaning will not fix the compartment? Are wires corroded too? Give Don Goldberg a try: DAG Camera Parts Good luck, Jan
K Davis Posted June 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2009 Here in the UK I would recommend CRR of Luton - 00441533812087. I would call Mr Grisaffi first and if he thinks it is repairable he will also convert it to use modern batteries. He has serviced lots of my Leicas and always done a great job but you'll have to wait in the queue.

There would be in the US, but the OP says he's in France. There may be fewer alternatives there.
