Good evening!

I just wanted to quickly pop in here and say hey. I just went from owning your standard run of the mill point and shoot cameras like Sony and Fuji and have purchased a D-Lux 4 and all I can say is I've gone from taking pics only once in awhile to taking pictures daily so I guess you can say I've found myself a new hobby.

My friends and colleagues have all questioned the images I've taken by asking me what kind of DSLR I'm using and when I show them my D-Lux 4, they all can't believe such a little thing can create such excellent images.

Anyways I can't wait to see how my photography improves... I'm still curious as to if and or when I might get the itch to upgrade to an M8. Until then I will continue to read up on forums such as this one and try to improve hopefully through your careful eyes.

Cheers,

Fredrick

PS I just posted in the Landscape and Travel section and look forward to your critiques and comments http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/90008-german-trip-pics-lookin-critiques.html

Frederick,

Welcome to the club - you'll find lots of wisdom here! Just had a look at your photos from Germany and they look superb!

The M8 may be in your future sooner than you think......

Best,

Jan

Welcome Fred! Your story is similar to mine. I went from a 2 MP Sony Cybershot to this thing called "Leica".

I blame my in-laws. On my last visit to Japan they said "why don't you buy a nice camera here?" Unfortunately the LX3 didn't have English menus, so my wife said I should get the Canon G10. I'm glad I don't listen to my wife all of the time! I decided I should go all the way and go for the red dot. I'm expecting this thing to last a lifetime!

Thanks all!

I'm really enjoying this camera a lot. I had brought my video camera with me too when I went to Germany and ironically I barely used it! I couldn't tear myself away from the Leica.

Until I get more familiar with Photography in general, I think i'll hold off on the M8 only because I feel that it's too much camera for me right now. Heck I'm still learning about the simple things like F-stop and bracketing! Maybe in a few years when I'm worthy, will I buy a big brother for my D-lux 4.

Ich muss auch Deutsch übung. Ich war 3 jahre in Deutschland gearbeitet. Berlin ist wie Heimat und ich Vermiss meine Deutsche leben sehr :(
