FastFashnReloaded Posted November 9, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) DP Review's Leica forum is in meltdown, partly because the RangeFinder Forum guy, Jorge, is over there hosting a poll to drive people to his site, "Are you going to return your M8?" So, I called him on it and got banned for "abuse". Sorry, I remember people like him yelling about the DMR on here a few years ago, saying the same things. I think he even had a few DMRs for sale on this forum (that he got from complaining loudly to Leica). If there is a "real" problem with the M8, it'll be fixed. If you were an early adopter, sorry, that's what you get when you buy electronics first off the assembly line. This problem will be fixed, sorry if Leica is trying to break new ground and give people something new in rangefinders, but I'm not going to d___ an entire product line because some people can't get their black levels set correctly. Advertisement Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Hi FastFashnReloaded, Take a look here Banned for Abusing Jorge . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FastFashnReloaded Posted November 9, 2006 Author Share #2 Posted November 9, 2006 By the way, I seem to recall over the years, many people being really happy that the IR filtering on their Sonys, Canons etc were removable or weak. Take it easy Dana. Folks are upset right now. Edit ABr
carstenw Posted November 9, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 9, 2006 Dana, I have an M8, and the magenta problem is unrelated to black levels. If you set the black level on a magenta area, the image takes on a cyan cast. There is real black side-by-side with magenta black in some of my images. FastFashnReloaded Posted November 9, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted November 9, 2006 Dana, I have an M8, and the magenta problem is unrelated to black levels. If you set the black level on a magenta area, the image takes on a cyan cast. There is real black side-by-side with magenta black in some of my images. The point is not that there isn't a problem (and I don't know how systemic it is because I can't believe that engineering sample would have done this - most likely it is a production issue), but that whining trolls on DP Review and other places need to get a life. Not all of us forget that people saying bad things now are the usual suspects from the past. If you spent $5000 on an M8 and lenses then it's sad there is an issue - one that I have not seen in all the photos - but it'll be fixed. Dana, don't...Edit ABr
carstenw Posted November 9, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 9, 2006 Okay, but there is no need to rant on rich people here. Anyway, I will have to sell my 5D and all the lenses to pay for the M8 and the 50/1.4 Asph. I got, so no need to rant on me either Yes, there is a problem, but it can be dealt with somehow, and I am sure Leica will make improvements.
FastFashnReloaded Posted November 9, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted November 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The DP review thing really set me off. I'm going to take a deep breath, and know that when I have the money in a few months to get an M8, all these issues will be fixed. Asher Kelman Posted November 9, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 9, 2006 Sorry you were banned! I was banned from the late RG forum because I questioned why other people were being banned!! So we started our own site! One has to tread a fine line between respecting other people and humiliation and abuse. I think using one's real name and having a reputation at stake, promotes mutual respect. Asher The Open Photography Forums Initiative p.s. not trying to recruit, (well, you are welcome to come over) but would love great M8 images, as DNG files) as my M8 was a pre-release model and I wasn't permitted to keep the SD card! If so, why is it relevant? It's a rant, just treat it as such, imagine that if I were in a bar I would have gotten in a fight and gone to jail, and just leave it at that. andy_mclean Posted November 9, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 9, 2006 Hmm, the point is clear is it not JR? We are told that Dana has been banned from a forum far, far away for giving someone else from yet another forum a hard time for trying to poach people from the second to the third. We didn't know that, so Dana thought it would be of interest to let people here, in an innocent, parallel universe, know all about it. In particular that she doesn't like to hear rich people moan about life too much, particularly over a Leica that gives everyone a rose-tinted view of the dark side of general apparel. I have to say that these parallel events are news to me... Maybe she does have a point! The new M8 makes the world a much, much more colourful place than it really is, and yet here are all these rich folks whining about it. I mean, imagine Darth Vader in mauve! Couldn't see him conquering the universe in that outfit, could you? Although his green twin would be quite threatening.. and the universe would look twice as big too. Thereby creating even more space to swallow M8 whiner's screams. ;-)
plasticman Posted November 9, 2006 Share #13 Posted November 9, 2006 Well - i was curious and went along to have a look - and to be quite honest... i would've banned you too! :-) Your responses to Jorge's post were consistently offensive and personally insulting. In addition, you assert several times as a matter of plain fact that Leica intend to fix all of the problems. From the information that i've seen here (SO FAR), they seem to have no such intention whatsoever. Insofar as they are addressing the known issues, it appears that it's gonna be up to the buyer to purchase IR filters AND send in their Leica lenses for coding as a 'fix' for the magenta/black hardware problem. Too bad if you wanna use your CV or Zeiss lenses on the camera. As far as the streaking and green-blobbing is concerned - well total silence, as far as i can see. There ya go - now you can heap some abuse on me. :-) PS: i think i'll start signing my posts as "M8 whiner" - it's so easy to start abusing people with that particular epithet that those who actually question the status quo should start wearing it with pride! carstenw Posted November 9, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 9, 2006 I longer wonder why they are called the baaad guys. And all the black sheep who follow the baaad guys just need shearing... miami91 Posted November 9, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 9, 2006 A rant it is, but not very constructive. Pure narcissism. You know the saying "with friends like these, who needs enemies"? With friends like DCK, Leica will be out of business in no time. Jeff.
