Just purchased a D-Lux4 as a carry around camera and finding my way around it. However I cannot see how to use i.Exposure - it is always greyed out in the menu. Am I missing something or is it not worth bothering about anyway?

Any other tips much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Paul and congrats on your new camera! I'm holding my DL-4 trying to duplicate your situation. The screen showing "I.EXPOSURE" has alternating gray colors for each row. The row above, AF/AE LOCK is light gray and the I.EXPOSURE row is a darker gray. Use the "right arrow key" to access the options of: Off, Low, Standard or High. I've never used that feature for exposure control and not really sure what it does. There is a different exposure control for you to try.

While in any PASM, A or Scn mode click on the up-arrow key just above the menu button. An exposure scale is the first option that appears. PASM = Program, Aperture, Shutter or Manual options.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for that - very confusing as the I.Exposure row in my menu is a lighter grey but with the lettering greyed out and is just skipped over when going down the menu. The same applies to Digital Zoom but I understand that is because I have set the camera up for RAW files where it appears Digital Zoom is not possible. The manual does not seem to suggest that RAW affects I.Exposure.

Even more confusing is that I cannot get the guidelines to appear on the screen - here I have Rec Info set to On and the pattern shows one of the options but no grid appears on the screen. All very confusing - makes me wonder if it is me or a fault.

Doesn't seem to matter what mode the camera is in akthough I generally use P or A

Solved it!

I.Exposure does not work in RAW - obvious really, but not mentioned in the manual.

As for guidelines I had totally forgotten to switch the display with the Display button - stupid or what!

That's because I.Exposure is a software function applied to the raw image. Usually rises the ISO for the original picture to have enough "playground" so if you are stressed by ISO is not a good combination.
