Peter Branch Posted November 9, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just spoke to someone at Leica UK .........they don't yet have first hand experience of the problems so have nothing to report to Solms themselves. I'm sorry to say that this statement is incorrect. They have DNG files on a CD taken from my M8 very clearly showing the faults. The "Banding" is the worst fault on the samples I sent but the magenta cast is also present and manifests itself as "muddy" looking images. It is very far from clear where we go from here. gareth_c Posted November 9, 2006 Author Share #23 Posted November 9, 2006 I don't doubt it for a minute. I was simply passing on what they told me, whether that is the case or not.
blovitch Posted November 9, 2006 Share #24 Posted November 9, 2006 I emailed them on Monday detailing all of the glitches I had with my M8 (including some dead pixels on the LCD display) I received a reply from Leica saying they acknowledged my email and had passed the details to Solms. I followed this with a phone call a couple of days later, speaking to the gent who had replied to my email. He obviously did not make the connection between my phone call and the email and claimed to have no knowledge of any problems, despite acknowledging my email 2 days earlier. Very poor. John Maio Posted November 9, 2006 Share #25 Posted November 9, 2006 Since it seems that Leica is trying to downplay the problem (from the official remarks given) I would suggest that each and everyone call up their delaers and point their attention to the forum or somehow make it clear to them that there are a lot of people that are concerned with the situation. I don't think its enough to assume that someone from Leica reads these posts on regualr period. We want to get the message out that there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed quickly and in an appropriate manner. We don't want a patch we want this thing fixed! So guys get to the phones.... It may take more than just calling the dealer. I canceled a coded lens order at one (and sent him images of purple blacks) and will be visiting with the local dealer where I purchased my now 4 day old M8 this morning to not only show him prints, but actually demonstrate the problem with a piece of black velour. What happens after that I can't predict. Although I want to work with them to get this resolved, I don't intent to pay for a fix. If the dealer, one I've spent many thousands with over the years, wants to remain my dealer, he will put keen pressure on Leica to come up with an answer. "Sour grapes" will not be sufficient. In my many years of corporate life I, like many of you learned that rule one is still rule one - "money talks, BS walks" John

brunom Posted November 9, 2006 Share #27 Posted November 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lori Yes there are many greedy and mercenary cameras dealers out there and many that are not, you just have to find the right dealer. Who was the dealer that you received such shoddy treatment from, and what camera dealership is Stelios [ are you talking about Easy what-have-you, or someone else?] connected with ? In different industies when you get as low as you can go with your prices , customer service becomes more important and possible the deciding factor, and may play a bigger part in whether or not you buy, than in other industries. My comment about sour grapes was a general comment not addressed to you specifically. Bruno
