D3 UK arrival?

This is my first post, so hello to the forum.

I took delivery of my Digilux 3 on Saturday morning and shot a wedding the next day, partnering it with my D2. I would echo generally the sentiments expressed above: this wedding ceremony took place in 4 o'clock gloom and I was bailed out by OIS for several important reportage opportunities, without having to resort to flash. Really impressive, empowering feature. And the image quality at 400 ISO is in a different league to the D2. I haven't been through the day's results yet with any real scrutiny, so I can't comment on the sharpness up close.

However it's an SLR, loud and proud. I fell back on the D2 for coverage of the ceremony itself, simply because the D3 was noisy (AF and shutter) and, I felt, too intrusive. The D2, of course, is near-silent - so discreet that I usually give the thumbs-up after a group shot to indicate that the picture has been taken!

First impressions after yesterday: I feel that I now have a versatile partnership rather than an obsolete camera. They're different animals, really, and I imagine that the Digilux name was retained more for marketing/product recognition purposes than anything else.

Cheers

David.

Good point David. Quite a shock first time out. Not used to all that clonking about with a Digilux 2.;)

I do love the Digilux 3 though. Certainly faster writing images and viewing images. Real quick scrolling around playback too.

I find myself only using the viewfinder and turning off the rear display.

With the Digilux 2 I'd compose some shots using the screen but on the 3 it seems poor on 'live view'. Consider it an SLR and you'll be fine.

Anyway, I take a perverse pleasure in putting a camera to my eye. People wonder what on earth you're doing. It seems the whole world holds cameras at arms stretch in front of them these days.;)
