ptomsu Posted November 9, 2006 Share #41 Posted November 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Returned it. Magenta cast on black polyester clothing and such was bad. Hoping for a decent version, will buy again. I still consider the camera an exciting advance. Leica Solms should publish an official and honest appraisal, including all the potential solutions they anticipate doing, and in what time frame. Hey YOU - what do you have against magenta on black ????? zzzZZZZ !!!!
Advertisement Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Hi ptomsu, Take a look here Who's on the sidelines now?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JeffWright Posted November 9, 2006 Share #42 Posted November 9, 2006 Please post your name here if you've cancelled your order for, or returned, your M8. Thanks. Allan I've taken the "no more bleeding edge" approach and decided 3-4 months ago to postpone this purchase until I saw the problems people were having. This is worse than I expected from Leica, and it makes me suspicious that they used a very narrow range of beta testers. Looks like they should have had this camera in more photographers hands before going to production.
jpbeer Posted November 9, 2006 Share #43 Posted November 9, 2006 Cancelled my two units. Will wait for a revised version of the box. Very sad, but I still have my M6's and the glass for them.
J_Brittenson Posted November 9, 2006 Share #44 Posted November 9, 2006 I'm still on preorder. I plan to wait a couple of weeks to see what Leica will do, if they haven't announced they're working on a proper fix that doesn't involve filters by then I'm canceling. mhoutman Posted November 9, 2006 Share #45 Posted November 9, 2006 I have ordered and are waiting for a black M8. With all the problems as we have seen untill now, I have my doubts that Leica will come with a solution within a few weeks; I beleive it rather will take some more time to adress the problems and provide a solution. What I really don't like is the bad communication of Solms and that they are still shipping camera's which have serious faults. Last but not least I cannot understand why most of the problems where not discovered during testing or haven't been mentioned by early reviews. Bottomline: I will only accept a M8 which is 100%. J_Brittenson Posted November 9, 2006 Share #46 Posted November 9, 2006 I have my doubts that Leica will come with a solution within a few weeks; Of course they're not going to fix it in a few weeks. All they need to do is announce they're working on a fix that will be available to all existing customers at no expense when it's ready. If they're so busy on this problem as some posters here seem to believe, then all they need to do is state this and deliver sometime in the future. Personally, I have my doubts they will do anything at all about the purple raincoats, but I'm willing to give them some time to write up a press release to the contrary. plasticman Posted November 9, 2006 Share #48 Posted November 9, 2006 i'll be postponing when my turn comes up if the streaking and IR problems are not addressed by Leica before then. And to all who are saying that the smartest thing for Leica to be doing at the moment is keeping quiet until they have a solution in place for these problems: i have to strongly disagree. The most responsible thing (imho) would be for them to stop sending out the camera into the sales channel altogether, and thereby show quite unequivocally that they place their customers first. A statement that realistically assesses the problem, and the predicted consequences for people who've taken delivery of the camera would be a great step forward. I'm very concerned that we might be looking at a sensor re-development from Kodak. This means a much longer timescale than maybe most people are thinking. jsparky Posted November 9, 2006 Share #49 Posted November 9, 2006 I'm a new on the forum, and thanks to the information that is available here I am postphoning my purchase. I would like to make one obesrvation. It seems very odd that there is a division between those who appear to be trying to minimize the magnatude of the M8's problems and the buyer/user who expects a camera to preform like a Leica. Good luck to all. Jack
SteveYork Posted November 9, 2006 Share #50 Posted November 9, 2006 I was on the fence to begin with. Now, if I want to go digital, I'll start with an R-D1. I liked its controls better anyway, and the low light ability of an M is important to me.
