suden Posted June 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all! Got my 35mm Summilux yesterday and am giving it the work out....so far, so great, but first a couple of questions. I notice that there is a slight bit of play in the aperture ring at f/1.4 and f/16. If you set it at one end of the range or the other it will snap into place but you can still turn it just a very slight amount past that point...there's just a very slight bit of play there. This is not an issue with any of the other apertures in between. I called Leica and spoke with tech support and they said that this is normal and not be be concerned about it. Fine, and maybe I'm being a little overly paranoid (which spending a load of $ tends to do) but I was just wondering how many of you have the same scenario? My 35 Summarit doesn't do this Also, I was out shooting in the bright sunlight yesterday and noticed that the color appeared kind of over-saturated and blown out (for lack of a better word perhaps) when it came to shooting these orange blooms. I had the Leica IR filter attached as well and the M8 set to On+UV/IR. I will have to go back and shoot again with my Summarit today to compare, but it seems that I remember way back having this occuring with my other lens as well, so perhaps it is the way the M8 is rendering the image, rather than the lens...? Or Aperture? Capture One renders it the same, as does Adobe Photoshop raw. Here is the image shot in RAW, uploaded to Aperture software with no processing: Welcome, dear visitor! lars_bergquist Posted June 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2009 Red is a notoriously difficult colour with all digital capture, including video cameras. The channel carries a lot less detail info than the green one. The old man from the Age of Kodachrome
suden Posted June 11, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted June 11, 2009 I just took a closer look at the flower in the test pic, and I stand corrected to some degree...there is more red in it then I realized, so the colors are more true but still appear over saturated in the image. My Canon 5D did a much better job of rendering the color and it's digital as well. I guess it boils down to the sensor? I just want to make sure that it's not the lens. Mine does the exact same thing, and did right out of the box. I don't know how "normal" it is, but it has absolutely no effect on the operation of the lens, and the play has not increased in the three years I've owned the lens. I don't even think about it anymore.
dwind Posted June 11, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 11, 2009 We had a discussion on this very subject last week. Some say set -1/3 ev, others say use manual to set the exposure - use the dot in the viewfinder. Dennis
