ptarmigan Posted June 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well picked up a nice shiny M8 today with s/h 35mm cron ASPH So, Nikon get all stressy about updating firmware 'on the battery' so I'm slightly nervous about doing so with the M8. Do I need a fully charged battery to do this?

marknorton Posted June 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2009 The camera will not let you do it if the battery is below a certain level so best to do it with a fully charged battery.
stunsworth Posted June 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 11, 2009 And if existing firmware is pre v2 you'll need a non-SDHC card to do the update. Support of SDHC only became available with version 2 of the firmware.

Thanks mark. If I update to Firmware 1.201 will that give me all updates or do I have to do them individually?
Nicoleica Posted June 11, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks mark. If I update to Firmware 1.201 will that give me all updates or do I have to do them individually? Hi Ian, The current version is 2.004. This supersedes all previous versions. If you upgrade to this, you'll have the latest firmware.
Shootist Posted June 11, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks mark. If I update to Firmware 1.201 will that give me all updates or do I have to do them individually? No you do not have to any of the previous updates to get all the current features and fixes. Each new update contains all the good parts of older firmware, gets rid of the bugs of older firmwares and adds features.
jevidon Posted June 12, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Go to http://en.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/m8/; click on updates and follow instructions. Be sure to us a clean formatted SD card and not an SDHC. Make sure you have a fully charged battery to avoid any problems in that regard. Once you are updated to the latest version, you will be able to use SDHC thereafter.. CAUTION: Once you update, you will not be able to return to an earlier version, if that is important to you.
