jrc Posted June 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Nocti slightly misfocuses -- long. That is, if I focus the rangefinder perfectly, using the small clear crossbars on a window to gauge focus, or, at close-range, the letters on a computer screen, the image will be out of focus. I have to turn the focus control slightly clockwise -- maybe 2-3 mm -- to get precise focus. I can almost do it every time. Think it's worth trying to fix? The thing is, it's the lens, not the M8 -- all my other lenses perform fine with the rangefinder as it is. If I do decide to try to fix it, where's the best place to try in the US? Advertisement Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Hi jrc, Take a look here Misfocus -- what would you do?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
grduprey Posted June 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2009 Yes, get it adjusted. You can send it to Leica NJ or Sherry Krauter or Don Goldberg for adjustment in the US. This is not a defect, but just a fine tuning of the Noctilux for digital. Gene
lars_bergquist Posted June 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 11, 2009 I had the same kind of problem with a mint Elmarit-M 90mm that I bought used. It was probably so pristine because the owner only got fuzzy pictures with it! I sent the lens and my M8 body to Solms, with strict orders to leave the body alone (I want it to keep focusing my other ten lenses). After nearly two months of nail-biting the rig returned. It is now tack sharp. The job cost about as much as I paid for the lens in the first place (c. 400 euro equivalent), but it was worth it. The work can be done properly only by a workshop that owns a lab-grade collimator. Check that before you entrust your lens to any optical cobbler.
