PavelDerka Posted June 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm buying my first film Leica .... an M4-P to add film to my M8. On the back is a stuck on film insert, which I removed to get to the traditional dial with which one can keep track of film speed. Dang ... I found that the film speed dial is not there underneath. I'd really like to have it .... is it possible to send out for repair or to find some place that has the hinged back ... or would that cost so much that it would be foolhardy? The body is somewhat beat up .... but I like it just the same. It is not mean to be anything but a camera to shoot a lot of film through ... but I do like the idea of the dial far more than this cheezy add on. So, what should I do? Advertisement Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Hi PavelDerka, Take a look here M4-P back fix?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
NB23 Posted June 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2009 There is no speed dial on the M4p, which is my favorite M, by the way.
PavelDerka Posted June 9, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted June 9, 2009 Oh ... are you sure? The reason I ask is that the manual for it shows it and there is a round cut out under the double sided tape.
jpattison Posted June 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2009 Hi, Take a look at the picture in the M4-P manual. There is a "write on" dial on the rear door, use just as a reminder. http://www.devicemanuals.com/guide/Cameras/Leica/Leica-M4-P-instruction-manual-TmpNeE9UYz.html Cheers, John
PavelDerka Posted June 10, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted June 10, 2009 Aaah! Yeah, I missed that detail ... that it takes a pen. So then I guess I'm ahead with my little insert slot. I take it there is nothing that can be bought or retrofitted that would give the ability to get by without a pen.
alifie Posted June 10, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2009 Try the usual sources DAG etc. or get a replacement M2, 3, 4 back, I think it fits.
MattLain Posted June 11, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) you can get a replacement back, from DAG for example, or buy some camera-leather and lose the dial completely. If you use the camera often or well enough anyway, you'll know what film you're shooting.
