How to get M8 DNG files to show up in C1?

Kurt-

I had the same issue with transfers directly from the camera (Win XP). I think C1 would recognize them by just renaming .TIF to .dng. I think I did a batch rename in Bridge.

By the way, the reason I was transferring directly from the camera was that I had used a 4gb SD card, which would not work with my card reader. Got a new reader (about $15), and it reads the 4GB card fine (and of course much faster than from the camera).

Edit: I see you're using a reader. Maybe a bad reader?

That is the file extension you are seeing in the file browser?

I don't see the Leica file names anywhere on my "My computer." However when I open what I am sure is the Leica file, sure enough there are the images. I am using the Transcend 4GB cards so I will try again with the SanDisk 2GB cards to see if there are differences.

Strange stuff, this but as I said if you know where the Leica files should be, you can retrieve them. Just a very large pain in the ...ss to have to go through this.

Woody,

FYI, the 4Gb Transcend card you have is not a SDHC card... unless you have a very, very recent one (it's written SDHC on the top label). To my knowledge, the M8 is only compatible with SDHC for 4Gb and larger. Try a smaller card and see if that solves the issue maybe.

ok, the light went on in my head.

It is possible that you do not see the file extension if the file extension is associated with a specific program. Windows gives you the option of seeing or not seeing the extension of known document types.

1. Go to the card reader from "My Computer" and drag the folder than contains the files to your desktop or other location that you will remember.

2. Make sure you have C1 v3.7.5 or v3.7.6

3. Navigate the folders in C1 until you find the original folder in 1. above.

Let us know if that works for you or where you are stuck.

For some reason, C1 isn't reading my DNG files I bring into C1. I'm certain it must be reading them as a TIF image, but am uncertain as to how to circumvent. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Your other option is to drive down to my place in Winnetka and I'll be glad to help. ;)

In the first pane in C1, make sure that you have navigated to and chosen the directory that contains your images, and haven't opened the directory "too far". I was doing this by mistake when I first started using it and it was very frustrating.

(I assume that the interface is similar enough on the Mac and PC versions)
