nielsb Posted November 8, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2006 Here is a statement on the Auto WB "issue" circa 3/4 the way down the page on this website: Leica M8 Experience Hi everyone! I belive this will be my first post here; I'm a newbie Leica user (not M8 - yet), and I've been following the threads about the "defects" of the M8 with great interest. Just to make things clear: if my dealer had an M8 in stock today, I'd jump in with both feet and grab it!!! Why this post in this thread then? Well, being in the computer industry and being around the internet since it's beginnings, I'd be wary seeing the statement on the outbackphoto site as an offical statement from Leica. It's just a quote from someone saying that someone else told him .... I.e. it's not official unless it's posted on the official Leica web-site. I have no doubt that Leica is aware of the problems (many users of this forum has ben in touch with Leica regarding this), and it will be fixed. But saying that there has been an official statement from Leica regarding the issues based on the link above is just wrong. Let's be careful what we consider officlal statements - and please, please; let me get my M8 NOW. Niels
reddawn Posted November 8, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 8, 2006 yes i agree. until Leica puts it down on their website statements like these cannot be taken as the "official word". It could be something a salesperson or engineer say but may have no bearing on the stand of the company. I don't understand why pple keep referring to this link as an official statement. I can't see the website link mentions it as "official" and it is not mentioned here either; where did you see it was an "official statement"? I read it as him saying that he contacted Leica and this was their reply/statement, whatever you want to call it, I don't think anyone thought it was official on someone elses website, surely! nielsb Posted November 8, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 8, 2006 Sorry to ask, but did you read it properly? I can't see the website link mentions it as "official" and it is not mentioned here either; where did you see it was an "official statement"? Yup, certainly did (read it I mean), and no, nowhere on the site did it say it was official. But, this being internet and all, how long do you think it'll take before someone construes it as bein an official Lecia Statement (as you can argue I did)? I read it as him saying that he contacted Leica and this was their reply/statement, whatever you want to call it, I don't think anyone thought it was official on someone elses website, surely! My whole point is that it is not a statement from Leica, it is a reply from someone working at Leica, which is - I know, splitting hairs but - from a legal perspective a huge difference. I have no doubt the issues will be fixed (and as I wrote before; if my dealer had the camera today I'd be buying it), but until there is an official statement or (better yet) a fix, all we know is that some people at Leica are aware of the problems and seems to be working on a solution.
