pascal_meheut Posted November 7, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I still find it a bit strange that Leica Camera AG does not post their action plan in this forum. Maybe because whatever is said on the Internet is misunderstood, misinterpreted, transformed almost instantly by a lot of people who are trying to make the reality fit their fantasy. peterv Posted November 7, 2006 Share #22 Posted November 7, 2006 Thanks very much Andy, for this reassuring news. Actually I've been loosing sleep over this. The M8 I ordered (black ) consumes a large portion of my income this year. I did this, like a lot of other people on this forum, because I wanted to make an investment in a quality product that would last for the coming years. For a moment there I was a bit nervous... Still deciding on 90 VS 75 . Off topic; Guy, I 'm also going to (have to) make a choice between the two lenses. What are your ideas about the pro's and con's concerning both lenses? I have tested the FOV of both, and I think for close-up portraits the 90mm will do nicely. The 75 may be too close to 50mm. (the first lens I'm going to buy with the M8) Cheers, Peter

(the first lens I'm going to buy with the M8) Cheers, Peter Peter I chose the 90 over the 75 because I feel that if I need a medium telephoto (not something I use super often) then I want the longer of the two. The quality of both lenses is simply outstanding so IQ is not a decision making issue. If anything, there are occasions whey I think the 90 is too sharp (portraits for example show every pore and blemish) but of course you can always blur in photoshop if it is too disturbing. Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 7, 2006 Share #31 Posted November 7, 2006 I'm all hooked up be here in the morning. Chrome still avaiable Leica M8 Digital Camera Body (Silver Chrome) Also just a thank you for all the members here trying to hook me up with a M8 . The outpouring of help was and is amazing. My kind of place to hang out
innerimager Posted November 7, 2006 Share #32 Posted November 7, 2006 My good friend at my dealership surprised the heck out of me and called to say he has a chrome M8 for me (as I wanted). I didn't expect it for a month or more. Now I admit I was somewhat glad to have leica sort out the banding problem before I got mine, but I am convinced they will make it right. It is the first time I've experienced a camera company admitting an early problem openly and stating they are getting right onto the fix, and believe me I've experienced a few contrary examples. It is consistent with their reputation and truly is a welcome change, one I respect, and that I have confidence in. So, by tomorrow I'll have an RD-1 (refurbished that I ordered to at least tide me over for a few months), and an M8, wow. A new photographic world awaits, i believe.....Peter
clayh Posted November 7, 2006 Share #33 Posted November 7, 2006 Can you point me to the place where Leica has issued this mea culpa? I have read a handful of posts from people who say they have talked to them. I have seen nothing official that I have been able to pull off of the web. Nor do their USA phones work. . Jamie Roberts Posted November 7, 2006 Share #34 Posted November 7, 2006 So did I . LOL let's see 15 V/C, Zeiss 21,Leica 24, 35 1,4, 50 1.4 , 90 Apo. 135 with bug eyes . I sold the 75 Apo but maybe buy that again ( Robert and I are going to test these two and see what each of us like than decide), Still deciding on 90 VS 75 . I may sell the Zeiss 21 and get the Leica' 21 why I don't know but the person that I bought the Zeiss 21mm from is having regretts about selling it so being a nice guy I may sell it back to her, she let it go too cheap and i told her that . I have 3 bodies on order for the M. But i may only keep one for now. Making sure my two good friends get one each. My workshop instuctors. Jack Flesher and Chuck Jones Hey Guy--I'd happily put a wedding spin on your workshop if you can swing another M8. Say "hi" to Jack for me and tell him I'm going to use that Oly 21 on my M8... My dealer just said "5" M8s are on their way--for *all* of Toronto (that's 3 dealers, in case anyone Canuck is listening). Ay carumba!!
Jack_Flesher Posted November 7, 2006 Share #35 Posted November 7, 2006 Hi Jamie: Was just in Cambridge last week and almost looked you up to borrow a camera -- everybody said the prime fall color had passed and the weather was bad anyway, so all I brought was my mini P&S cam. Stupid fawking me, eh? LOLOL ANyway, next time for sure!

aj37 Posted November 7, 2006 Share #37 Posted November 7, 2006 Can you point me to the place where Leica has issued this mea culpa? I have read a handful of posts from people who say they have talked to them. I have seen nothing official that I have been able to pull off of the web. If they publicly admitted fault, they might incur liability under some countries' consumer protection laws. Then we'd have all the engineers spending their time running around giving depositions instead of working on the banding issue! Not what we want, right...? miami91 Posted November 7, 2006 Share #38 Posted November 7, 2006 Can you point me to the place where Leica has issued this mea culpa? I have read a handful of posts from people who say they have talked to them. I have seen nothing official that I have been able to pull off of the web. Nor do their USA phones work. Clay, Exactly my thought. I don't think the mea culpa exists. Talk about a "reality distortion field". People are falling all over themselves to excuse the release of a camera with serious problems, and are also making excuses for why Leica hasn't posted anything public about repairs (see earlier up the thread). I'm no Leica basher --- I own 4 Leica cameras, have a D3 on pre-order, and will undoubtedly buy the M8 as soon as I can rationalize it (and problems are fixed). But if I were one of the folks who had a crippled camera in my hands (or one on pre-order), I'd be indignant, and rightfully so. And I wouldn't be making a bunch of rationalizations for what a great company they were for presumably making repairs. I think Leica borrowed a page from Microsoft here: release a beta product in order to meet a deadline (a deadline that was pushed back, no less), and then over the course of several weeks bring it up to spec with a series of service packs (aka, firmware updates). Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 7, 2006 Share #39 Posted November 7, 2006 There may never be a public announcement so forget that one right now,. There will be a update announcement and that is almost a guarntee. Companies will always add to the positive side than the negative announcments. So looking for them to admit guilt or fault will never happen with leica or anyone for hat matter. they will say what the firmware upgrade is for and that is good enough. Frankly at the end of the day that is all we want anyway. i could care less what is said but what is done. Clay my advice just sit tight and don't return it. It should work out just fine. I have a lot of faith in leica and as a Pro my neck is on the line everyday with there gear and support an in either case i have never felt let down in any way. Okay firmware for the DMR would certainly be nice, no question . But other than that being on the bleeding edge with them on the DMR what did i do buy a M8 with issues. Either i am one carzy SOB or really stupid. i know i am not stupid. I think the theme of the day is we all calm down and let them work it

You can't blame someone who has spent $5000 on a camera expecting something close to perfection. But I just look at problems with a new product as being part of the process. It's just different expectations by different folks. Rex
