andym911 Posted November 7, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I thought that this info may be interesting for those of you who (like me) are awaiting the delivery of the M8 and have been unsettled by the issues flagged by new users on this and other forums. I spoke with Leica Solms this morning and got the following answers summarized as follows: 1.Leica are aware and acknowledge the banding and magenta cast issues. 2.They are working on a solution (as mentioned by other posters here) and appear to have identified possible fixes. 3.It is not yet decided as to whether these fixes can be distributed to users via software update or, whether the camera would need to be sent back for a small 'intervention'. 4.This decision however will be taken very soon 5.There is currently no decision taken to stop shipments as of today. My personal takeaways from the conversation were: 1.Leica can and will solve the issues within a reasonable time period. 2.I got the reassurances and confidence needed to uphold my current order (black of course!) 3.I now look forward to finally getting the camera instead of worrying that I made a costly mistake. So I hope this may help some of you in some way as it did me. Please note that I am in now way speaking on behalf of, or Quoting Leica, this is purely my interpretation of the conversation. cheers Andy:)

mwilliamsphotography Posted November 7, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 7, 2006 I shot more again yesterday. I'll welcome any adjustments by Leica, but the results of shooting with it have me very excited about this camera even as it stands now. The prints are freakin' beautiful, and for many shots it promises to replace the brick of a Canon I have to carry around at weddings all day. I have just received a M8 shot my pal Irakly grabbed upon arriving in Russia yesterday. ISO 2500 B&W conversion. I've asked his permission to post it here 'cause it's lovely. Keep the faith. Yes Guy, there are a lot of angels here....but that said I hope it is not one of the 6 transparant ones http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/8612-m8-color-black-chrome-inventory.html Sure not. truando Posted November 7, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 7, 2006 actually, I bought the last of the transparent ones. Guess what, no magenta cast and no "banding" - it's perfect. here's a sample, I took the shot wide open at 1,4. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 7, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 7, 2006 So did I . LOL let's see 15 V/C, Zeiss 21,Leica 24, 35 1,4, 50 1.4 , 90 Apo. 135 with bug eyes . I sold the 75 Apo but maybe buy that again ( Robert and I are going to test these two and see what each of us like than decide), Still deciding on 90 VS 75 . I may sell the Zeiss 21 and get the Leica' 21 why I don't know but the person that I bought the Zeiss 21mm from is having regretts about selling it so being a nice guy I may sell it back to her, she let it go too cheap and i told her that . I have 3 bodies on order for the M. But i may only keep one for now. Making sure my two good friends get one each. My workshop instuctors. John Maio Posted November 7, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 7, 2006 Thanks for the report Andy. I received mine yesterday afternoon and havent had a real chance to excersise it yet - which I'll do today, of course. I think I clicked off about 5 frames last evening, and yes, the "issues" are there in my sample too, so its good to know Leica/Kodak are on top of it. In the meantime, I'll go out and enjoy making some images
andym911 Posted November 7, 2006 Author Share #18 Posted November 7, 2006 To all who have read or replied to my note here thanks. I was unsure as to whether to post or not because the last thing I wnat to do is to misrepresent anything said in my discussion with Leica, hence my closing sentence to this effect. On the other hand I have had so much 'grief' over the last few days with seeing bad image after bad image that the response from Leica put me back in a 'normal' state of mind. Some of you too I see. I can now speak to my wife and kids without mentioning the 'B' word and have been able to reduce my coffee intake to a steady 1/hour :-) So whilst Leica seem to be busy doing the right thing, it would be great if we can see more Showstopping great images from the camera that we are all so intense about. A call to you new lucky owners....post some great shots and lets try to learn the attributes of what promises to be a winner..... andy
B&W Posted November 7, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 7, 2006 Great news, Andy Thanks for sharing...... I still find it a bit strange that Leica Camera AG does not post their action plan in this forum.
SteveYork Posted November 7, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 7, 2006 I'm glad I didn't pre-order one of these things. I'm sure it'll be worked out, but what a hassle. You think Leica would have held up release until they had ironed out all the problems.
