Ewout Posted May 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) After reading this interesting forum for a while, I decided to post my first message today. I have a nice M2 + 50mm Summicron and enjoy using it a lot. On some of my negatives I notice a strange "artefact": it looks like a kind of hair. See attached photo. It is not visible on all photos, on some photos it is very well defined, on other photos only vaguely. However, it is always on exact the same location and has the same shape! I had a thorough look at my lens and inside the camera, curtain etc., but I can't find the source... Is there anybody who has an idea what this is? Thanks a lot for your help. Regards, Ewout

MattLain Posted May 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 30, 2009 how many frames on the roll is it on?
Ewout Posted May 30, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted May 30, 2009 last roll on 11 frames, roll before on 15... I looked for a relation with aperture or distance to subject, but there seems to be no obvious one.
rob_x2004 Posted May 30, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 30, 2009 Hair in the rails middle bottom of the shutter. You may have to wind on then depress the shutter in bulb so you have both curtains out of hte way to see it.
leicanut2 Posted May 30, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 30, 2009 Do you use a flash light when you look at the lens? That is really a bad thing because you can turn into a neurotic basket case when you see all the dust and you start cleaning them. Cheers Jan
andybarton Posted May 31, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 31, 2009 It's not in the lens, it's a "hair in the gate" as they used to say in Hollywood If you do as Rob says and use a pair of tweezers, you will be able to remove it quite easily. Don't forget that images are recorded upside down so the hair is on the opposite edge of the frame to it's position on the neg.
Ewout Posted May 31, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted May 31, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great! I found the little hair! I was indeed not thinking about the fact that images are recorded upside down and was therefore focussed on the top of the shutter. Thanks for your help!! drums1977 Posted June 2, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 2, 2009 Same thing happened to me on ALL the frames of my first roll with my M6. I panicked, but the forum's guys told me what it could be. And, exactly where they said, I found the little bastard and removed it. Congratulations!
