mreddington Posted November 6, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 6, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thomas - painful, isn't it?! I paid €599 here in France. I normally buy photo equipment and electronic toys in Germany since they are often much cheaper, but in this case Leica seem to have stitched up the prices on both sides of the Rhein, so I went ahead and bought it here. Haven't regretted it, though. Martin
Advertisement Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Hi mreddington, Take a look here D-Lux 3 software bundle. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thomasl.se Posted November 6, 2006 Author Share #22 Posted November 6, 2006 mreddington, Yeah well, it does hurt some. I'm looking at 599 in Germany, which is still 75 cheaper than here; 55 after shipping. I need a US dealer sending it marked as a gift worth 50, then I'll bite tonight. Otherwise I'll have to wait until next month; of course, starving for three weeks is an option too.

And if it gets lost in the post what will any insurance give you, the price you paid or the declared $50?
thomasl.se Posted November 6, 2006 Author Share #24 Posted November 6, 2006 stunsworth, That would be 50. Death or glory, I'm already hurting
robert_parker Posted November 7, 2006 Share #25 Posted November 7, 2006 Thomas GBP 490 is pretty much the standard English price - things are always more expensive over here !!
miami91 Posted November 7, 2006 Share #26 Posted November 7, 2006 Robert, Presumably you get what you pay for. Us Yanks get a good deal on consumer goods because of minimal (or no) taxes, but we also have sod all in terms of social goods (no national health care, rubbish public retirement system, crap social safety net, etc.). Great system for the well-off and educated (which I am fortunate to be part of), but not a very good deal for anyone else. Jeff.
thomasl.se Posted November 7, 2006 Author Share #27 Posted November 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Robert, It's kind of you trying to make me feel better Maybe Germany is the place to go in the EU for geek & gadget shopping. The £290 LX2 in the UK is probably grey market. The site is purelygadgets, and they offer a free "extended" 18 month warranty with the LX2. Most likely "extended" is just a misnomer in any context of original Panny warranty. I emailed them about it, but no reply. Anyway, I'm getting the D-Lux 3 and not the LX2; largely because I prefer Leica's firmware. The 2-year warranty justifies some of the price difference as well. By the way, unless I'm mistaken, the D-Lux 3 can be left for service anywhere, regardless of where it's purchased, as long as it's a registered product. Do correct me please if that's not so, and I'll forget about German dealers too.
lesh Posted November 7, 2006 Share #28 Posted November 7, 2006 Thomas .....Most people say Capture 1 is the best............ Obviously the thread has now moved off in another diection - but to get back to the software for use with the D-Lux 3. While Capture 1 seems to be well regarded is it not the case that at this time, no Leica (or Panasonic) camera is supported, except perhaps the new M8? mhoutman Posted November 7, 2006 Share #30 Posted November 7, 2006 I received a silver D-Lux 3 this morning. Just unpleasant to to see that Photoshop Elements 3 (for mac)is bundled and NOT version 4 (released march 2006) . Why is that ?
miami91 Posted November 7, 2006 Share #31 Posted November 7, 2006 They seem to be bundling one release behind for both platforms (not sure why, other than cost). So just as there is a version 4 for the mac, there is a version 5 for windoze. But Leica bundles a CD with versions 3 and 4, respectively. There may not be much difference between the versions --- there often aren't. As long as version 3 supports ACR (which I think someone stated it does), then at least the core functionality of support for RAW has been delivered. And if you want to upgrade to version 4, or to CS2, you'd be able to get the upgrade pricing. Jeff.

I thought it has something to do with the special license price Leica have to pay Adobe for the (old) suite. Michiel
