Any U.S. M8 Arrivals Today, Monday Edition

Just got the call from my New York dealer. They’re in.

I'm in Philly and will pick them up later this week when I have free time. I got one black and one silver. Why have one when you can get two?

Actually, I'm shooting so much these days that I can't afford to be without one working camera if the other is down. Also, I’m not big on changing lenses in the field and I need to respond quickly, so one will be devoted to wide-angle and the other to my 50mm or 90mm.

Additionally, my Digilux 2's sensor is starting to go with symptoms similar to the streaking as reported on this forum. I was hoping it would last at least as long enough until my M8s arrived. It has. Now I can send it to Leica under warranty along with some M lenses to get coded.

I originally started with a M2 setup but over the past two-and-a-half years I have been working with the Digilux 2. It will be an adjustment going back to the M approach; no zoom, no live preview, no completely silent shutter. However, the M8 is a tool closer to my photographic needs than any other camera currently in production. I made the commitment and it will be a new journey back to the future.

I also, have been trying to get the time to setup a real photo website to my standards. Haven’t had the time yet but was more or less forced to get a MySpace account the other week to interact with photo subjects. Sorta quick-n-dirty. None-the-less, I’ve actually been surprised at how well it’s working for me. However, the friend stuff is a bit corny though.

Take heart though, as one will show up soon. In the meanwhile, stop writing about this banding stuff to try to scare others out of their place in line. ;)

Guy E.A. Mancuso, my friend, this has to be killing you. (E.A. for Early Adopter.) David at Dale Labs just handed one over to David K this morning and is currently charging my battery so that I'll be good to go when mine arrives tomorrow. I think Woody's is about to go out as well. You could check to see if David has any extras.

David is such a cool guy. Mine went out overnight delivery tonight but he charged the battery for me so that I could pull the rig out of the box and start shooting. Man I am so stoked. I get an extra day (originally was supposed to get the body on Wednesday) so before my workshop in Arizona and Utah I will have two full days to get used to the controls (mainly the digital ones only since I have been shooting the M6 regularly these past two months). I don't want to be in the Slot Canyons of Antelope trying to figure out how to change ISO etc.

As I mentioned on another thread I plan to take both the DMR/R9 and the M8 into the slot canyons with just a couple of (very) wide angle lenses. For the M8 it will be the Voightlander 15 4.5 and for the DMR the Leica (Zeiss) 15 3.5. I hope to get some interesting comparisons for all to see. I will also take two other lenses, one for each body which will probably be the 21 Asph for the M8 and the 19 Asph for the DMR. Perhaps this will be a bit more interesting as all the lenses now will be Leica. (Although I have been shooting a fair amount since i got the CV 15 and really like it!)

Anyway, thank God for tomorrow! Finally I get to shoot the RF Leica instead of just dreaming!

Mine is at the dealer. He has to process it through his incoming stock procedure and I was told I could pick it up in about two hours. :D

I have it (black); the battery is charging, and now its time to kick back, listen to some music, read the manual (again) and sip on some fine bourbon.

Of course, too much bourbon would be problematic, wouldn't it ....

Good News Woody! I'll be very interested to see a few images from that Voigtlander 15mm and anything else you come back with. The 15mm certainly would be a little bit easier on the pocketbook. I'm glad the timing worked out well for your trip. You'll have so much fun playing with both cameras and the comparisons that you'll forget to do any sightseeing.

Well, I got a call from David at Dale but too late to get out tonight.(we were on our way to fencing, of all things:-)

I'll get it on Wed.

I will also ask david to add the magnifier, as the consensus seems to be to get it. (I have a 50 noctilux and a 75 lux)

We shall see. Can't wait to start some banding tests....

NOT!!!
