ChrisC Posted November 6, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to Michael Reichmann, the 6 bit data bar on new M lenses: "......tells the camera the focal length, maximum aperture and other information about the lens. This information is used by the camera to pre-condition the raw file so the raw converters can accomodate vignetting correction and provide EXIF information. Older M series lenses can be updated...." Zeiss lenses will not have a data bar. With regard to the missing data bar; how effected is image APPEARANCE from a Zeiss 25mm. lens M8 DNG file rather than one from a current Leica 24mm. lens? I am unclear how the vignetting information is utilised at the file processing stage. Yours Sincerely..........Chris.
