schimmey Posted May 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, I have recently been scanning & asking questions about a scanner & came to the conclusion to go for the Nikon 5000ED. I contacting a shop in London it appears that although the 5000ED has been discontinued Nikon will be replacing this with a new model at the end of June? Has anyone else heard about this? Kind regards, Paul

PavelDerka Posted June 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2009 That would be a nice surprise but my dealer told me that Nikon is simply getting out of the scanner biz. I hope that is wrong. I have to say though that I had the 4000 ( I don't like using USB) and I just sold it and decided to keep my epson instead. I have working with flatbeds but he Nikon software is terrible and wont work on my new intel based Mac anyways. With Vuescan it was ok but the workflow is not as nice as Vuescan's is with the Epson (the preview changes) The Nikon exagerates grain in black and white ... and now that I'm doing mostly that ... that was the final straw to decide to get rid. So it is really sad for me to see such a major player perhaps going. It makes me nervous for the long term viability of film. I sure hope that Nikon does announce a new one. The 6000? nikau Posted June 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 4, 2009 I have working with flatbeds but the Nikon software is terrible and won't work on my new intel based Mac anyways. My two Intel Macs, both on 10.5.7, run my 9000 via the Nikon software just fine, but I often prefer to use Vue Scan.
nugat Posted June 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 4, 2009 I run Nikon Scan 4.0.2 on Intel ac/10.5.7. (coolscan 5000). It is not a bad software at all. The scan software only has to transport the digitized iimage into your PP application. The only options worth considering on the scanner are 8bit/16bit, oversampling (2x is enough) and Digital ICE on transparencies. The rest is way better done in PP.
