What I can't stand are the Voigtlander Shillers over at rff. Gandy and Abrahamson used to talk very negatively about the noctilux and how any f1.4 lens was a better performer for a better price and how voigtlander had a "better" solution... but now that a VC f1.1 is available, they totally changed their song.

Of course it's all about money but it's disgusting to see how hypocrit their behavior is towards the people. Too many folks got banned for pointing out that some VC lenses we're total junk. Protecting the business and all, you know.

To be honest, I don't expect great things from this new lens. It's good for the market and for starters, but Leica is a loooooong way ahead from Zeiss and voigtlander in all departments. And I wouldn't listen to the RFF professional shillers too much. They mistake Leica users for ignorant retards.

Ned- Had a look at your site, some stunning images and agree totally with your post in fact this forum is starting to get an infestation of Cosina Voigtlander headers but I quite enjoy referring to them with the Cosina prefix as in the olden days Cosina would not have been classed as worth considering and although Voigtlander were highly rated in thier day I wouldn't think those relatively new to photography would register this

After reading this pseudo-elitist drivel I think I'll black-tape my M6. Avoids being mistaken for one with similar ideas.

It is very apparent that you are not MUCH better yourself. Shame on you

I remember those times when I did read a lot. I understand very well what you do mean with hypocrisy.

They should change from RFF to CosinaVoigtländer forum so it'd be fair :) And Abrahamson can get best samples from Gandy and write rave reviews while people get pieces of junkies (sample variation)

It would be fair world after all :)

I guess that is fine if one subscribes to the more is better mentality. On the other hand fewer means compactness, less clutter and contentment. I know which one I subscribe to

Very well said. It is what I learned me after a few years of struggling :)

May I point people to Sean Reid's excellent review of the 75 Summarit in which he compares it to the Heliar and the Summicron of the same focal length.

It would seem that the Heliar stands up very well indeed to the others - go look at his conclusions.

This thread has more than whiff of elitism about it IMO.

... laced with a tinge of snobbery. It seems I have been under a misapprehension these last fifty years, I always thought it was about the image not the kit :o

I have always wondered why people do that

As an owner of a 75mm Colour Heliar I can tell you that it is not the case but as I mentioned earlier I am extremely happy to trade mine with anyone who thinks it is as good

As an ignorant retard and a Leica user, I take exception to this comment.

Someone on this forum was looking for a name for Leica users saying that Nikon users are affectionately known as Nikonians, we could be ignorant retards, I like that. It would show that we do not take ourselves too seriously

It's elitist threads like this one that already made me cancel my membership on this forum once and it might very well make me do so again for good.

...A dealer I spoke to sometime ago hit the nail on the head when he said that Cosina Voigtlander cameras and lenses are very popular with students just starting out on a photography course usually upgrading to the real thing (Leica M cameras and optics) as money comes available. They obviously also seem very popular with those relatively new to photography...

I don't own any Voigtlander equipment (or zeiss RF gear for that matter). But you have answered your own question. If Voigtlander gear is a way for younger photographers or those who don't have as much disposable income to get involved in rangefinder photography, then it seems relevant to the discussions here. Many use Voigtlander lenses on Leica bodies which would also make them worthy of discussion.

I'm not saying Voigtlander or other third-party lenses are better than Leica, but for some photographers they definitely represent a better value since they often cost a small fraction of the closest Leica equivalent.

Bcs once upon a time, Leica was about small/compact camera. Leica was about 28 f5.6, 35 f3.5 50 f3.5 and 90 f4... It was keep in the pocket take anywhere... Then about 30yrs or so ago, tone change... We want to produce fast/sharp monsters - thats how 75 f1.4 and 50 f1.0 and 90 f2 come to life... But for some of us bigger doesnt mean better. And only CV left with small modern LTM lenses. When and if Leica go back to its roots, I will stop talking about CV 28 f3.5, 35 f2.5, 90 f3.5, but for now - there is nothing from Leica to fill the gap.
