Advertisement Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Hi Julian Thompson, Take a look here Anyone tried Eye-Fi wireless SD card?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sfokevin Posted May 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2009 Nice gimmick but the camera must be on to power the wifi and its brutally slow...
gravastar Posted May 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2009 I seriously doubt if it would work in the M8. The camera has a metal base plate and metal outer shell which would act as a Faraday shield blocking data transmission. I also suspect the rear of the LCD display has a bonded metal backing sheet. hx911 Posted May 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 24, 2009 Somehow I seem to recall it only works for .jpg ... That is the reason I did not buy one myself. I could be wrong of course edit: Yes, only JPG, no raw, can be transferred. I just checked website!
dempski Posted May 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 26, 2009 I bought one and regret it. It works only for jpg (they now tell you!), and so if you shoot jpg and dng it gets confused and never transfers anything. At least that's the theory. Another vendor suggested the metal case is too dense for the wifi to work at any distance from the computer, so the ease of use is strictly limited, even if only for jpg. So it either works poorly, or not at all, depending on your needs. K
gfspencer Posted May 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 26, 2009 I have one that was given to me. It works great with my Panasonic point and shoot. It only does JPEG. It is slow to transfer pictures. (I usually just give up and use a card reader.) I've never tried it in my M8.
Gene Posted May 27, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought one without realizing it would not work with DNG. So I thought of using it in another camera, but when I compared its write and read speed with my other cards (Extreme 3 and RAW), it seemed to be only about half as fast. So I junked it. gwelland Posted May 27, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 27, 2009 I bought one for my sister and tried it in the M8. In addition to the issues of jpg only/slow & the need to turn off power saving, I also found that the performance was severely affected by the metal body of the M8. Spend the cash on a decent card reader and other SD cards.
