jimbo035 Posted May 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wonderful though it is, the D-Lux 4 I bought four months ago marking my return to Leica Ownership has not diminished my desire to buy (and use) a iiic - although my budget may more realistically provide an even older one, e.g. built in the year of my birth - 1935. The last screw-mount Leica I had (about ten years ago) was a iiic - but as I wear eyeglasses found "peering" through the view and rangefinder windows wasn't easy. If you were (or even are) similarly affected, would you go for a Leica with rangefinder and view finder eyepieces centimetres apart or one with them side by side ? Or would adding a detachable bright-line finder or finders be the best option ? (No more than two lenses - i.e. a 35 and 90 are envisaged)
Advertisement Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Hi jimbo035, Take a look here Wearing eyeglasses & wanting a Leica series ii or iii. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bill Posted May 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2009 Jimbo, I too wear spectacles, as well as contacts. My first LTM was a IIIc. I got on with it, but when I bought my II I found it far nicer to use, partly because the range and viewfinder windows are further apart and more distinct. I can only suggest you try looking throgh one to find out for yourself. Regards, Bil
NZDavid Posted May 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2009 I got a 1935 IIIa (built a few decades before my birth.) I too wear glasses. The gap between rangefinder and viewfinders is not a big deal; focusing and composing with the M series a lot easier! One advantage of the LTMs though is the higher rangefinder magnification. Just make sure you get one that is fully serviced. They are beautiful jewel-like cameras. Mine could do with another workout soon.
