Hello all,

I just bought the above mentioned camera for my wife, I bought it in japan and the firmware is ver 1.2 which is great but for the fact it's in Japanese and there is not an option for changing language .

I have already tried to update the ver to using the English version update but it doesn't allow me too . so my question is----- how can I change the bloody language on this thing.

my prize for getting an answer that works is a canon 16 -35 mm f1.4 lens I have been dreaming of for the last year ,

your prize is that heart felt feeling of being a little smarter then the next guy and helping a fellow camera buff out :D

thank you in advance for your ideas !!!

From reading various posts on this subject there appears to be two versions of the Lx3 sold in Japan the International version and the Domestic version which is in Japanese language only (no language menu option available). It would appear that a couple of manufacturers are doing this and selling the Domestic versions at a lower cost, to 'prevent' Japanese residents buying them and on selling abroad at a profit they restrict the language options to Japanses only. A number of people have asked the question can the firmware be changed to an international one and all the answers appear to be no you cant. The only option would seem to be to have a word with Panasonic support and see if they can do it, but I would not hold your breath on that.

Have sent you a PM with a link to a document that may help. (found via another forum)

Would you believe:

There are eight kinds of DMC-LX3, regardless of the colours.

• a) DMC-LX3 (Japan domestic model), DMC-LX3SG

B) DMC-LX3P/PC

• c) DMC-LX3E/EB/EF/EG

• d) DMC-LX3GN

• e) DMC-LX3EE

• f) DMC-LX3GD

• g) DMC-LX3GT/GK

• h) DMC-LX3PL/GC/GJ

What is the difference is that the “INITIAL SETTINGS” data which is stored in Flash ROM mounted on MAIN PCB.

Different models have different stickers and symbols on the base catering for different countries. The document gives all the info.
