newyorkone Posted November 4, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Someone had asked about this but I don't recall seeing an answer. What is the Leica passport warranty for the M8 in the US? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Hi newyorkone, Take a look here M8 Warranty in the US. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mitchell Posted November 4, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 4, 2006 Leica US told me yesterday there is no Passport with the M8 "at this time" "because it's electronic." There is a regular 2 year warranty. Best, Mitchell
newyorkone Posted November 4, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted November 4, 2006 Thanks. 2 years is still twice as good as the other companies!
marknorton Posted November 4, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 4, 2006 Here in the UK, we get a passport but it's not clear how long it lasts - "varies by product".
harmsr Posted November 4, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 4, 2006 I just opened mine, and it only has a 2 year warranty card. No Passport. Ray
trs Posted November 4, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 4, 2006 What is passport warranty? I thought I read somewhere that two year warrantee good in any country no matter where you bought as long as you bought it from an authorized Leica dealer. But, then I don't remember where I read. thanks. -tanka
mitchell Posted November 4, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tanka, Leica US told me that if I buy an M8 in Europe the warranty will be honored in the US, but only if I buy from an authorised dealer, AND the dealer gives me an "International Warranty" that I register with Leica US when I return to the states. trs Posted November 5, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 5, 2006 Thanks Mitchell. Then it sounds like it is just like any other camera warranty except, it's for two year. I am still waiting for mine, UPS truck did not make it to dealer on Friday. Tanka
robsteve Posted November 5, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 5, 2006 The passport warranty on other Leica items is an unconditional warranty that includes breakage but not loss or theft. If you broke your Leica by dropping it or other ways and it was under passport warranty Leica would put your camera back into working specifications. This doesn't mean that they would replace a scratched cover, but they would make sure the camera worked when returned to you. It was said in total loses, such as you dropped it from a high place and it smashed to pieces, all they needed is a part of the camera with the serial number on it. My DMR just has a regular 2 year warranty as well, but the R9 it is mounted to is under passport protection.
innerimager Posted November 5, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 5, 2006 Be aware that many credit cards, including Amex for sure, automatically double the warranty. I used this feature for a kodak 720X that needed a major repair in year 2 and Amex covered it for well over $1000. I think many folks are unaware of this service.....Peter
