woody Posted May 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tonight I leave to walk the first section of the Appalachian Trail, from Springer Mt, GA to Fontana Dam, NC. I'm bringing my LX3 as my 'hiking' camera. I do wish it was water- and shock-resistant, but it's light enough and has a nice wide angle lens for the woods. It's also nice that it shoots HD video. Wish I could bring the M8, but it's too heavy. If I actually take pictures, I'll post some. Any other hikers using this or other cameras on long hikes? bill Posted May 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 15, 2009 If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you get hold of a copy of "A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson - it will forever change your view of travelling light... Look forward to seeing the results - happy trails! Regards, Bill
woody Posted May 15, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks Bill. Yes, I've read Bryson's excellent book. One great thing about spending a couple weeks in the mountains is that when you come back, everything is different. As a photographer, it can help to see things in a new light. bill Posted May 15, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2009 I envy you. As a more serious suggestion, are you familiar with Galen Rowell? His work is inspiring. Regards, Bill
