robbi@laurenson.com Posted May 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Folks, just noticed I keep getting a 'dead' looking pixel in my shots, but it only tends to show up in darker greys, though I have seen it in shots of blue sky as well. The lens has been cleaned using a LensPen. What might this be? This is a 400% crop of grey sky this morning. Cheers, Robbi
Advertisement Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Hi robbi@laurenson.com, Take a look here D-Lux 4 - pixel anomaly or dust?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
regedit Posted May 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2009 Looks like a hot pixel to me. It appears always in the same position for any shot. If so, yes you have a bad pixel on the exposure plate. Too bad. Contact Leica see what they are saying.
robbi@laurenson.com Posted May 13, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted May 13, 2009 I did some more digging through shots and I can see it even in some blue sky shots at 1/200 sec. I'll do some concerted testing and contact Leica to see what they say.
robbi@laurenson.com Posted May 13, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted May 13, 2009 OK, took some test shots. The hot pixel shows up bright white at f8 1/2000 sec exposure the same as a 4 sec exposure, in an almost pitch black room. It's not a typical situation where the pixel gets hotter under long exposure when the CCD warms up so I think I have a case for getting it repaired under warranty. One reason I went with Leica was to improve my chances of good customer service when things do go wrong - I guess we'll see!
robbi@laurenson.com Posted May 19, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted May 19, 2009 Good news! My choice of Leica is justified today - I have a new sensor shipping in from Germany to sort out the issue. Under warranty, of course.
