Leica cases vs Leicatime cases

I'm trying to decide on a case for the D-Lux 4 and I'm wondering if someone can explain the differences in the case offerings out there, specifically between the Leica everready case and the half cases at leicatime. The leicatime cases are probably beautifully made but his website is a bit confusing and not layed out well making it hard to find detailed info and pics. And of course it's just pics, hard to see/feel the differences unless you have them in person.

The Leica version seems decent and it looks like the top is removable?

I saw it on ebay for $129.

How does the leicatime half case compare? Fit, finish, usability, functionality, details, etc?

The Leicatime site seems a bit disjointed to me also but MANY people here love the quality of his cases. Popflash.com has the Leica ever-ready case on sale for $129.99 with a picture showing it comes apart as you want.

I was curious, did you ask for a price quote from Leicatime?

I would deal with Luigi any time, any place. His gear is hand-made, and will stand up for a long time.

I have used both, and Luigi wins....

Michael

Hi Michael and welcome,

Do you have an ever-ready case made by Luigi? I thought that might offer better protection on a trip over the half case.

Leicatime site is actually very bad, you emails may not be answered promptly, however at the end you will get the best product on the market (my personal opinion). It is not cheap but worth every penny. I did not order case for Dlux 4, I just like it on the belt and use original Leica case, but I ordered cases for digilux 2 and M8 and enjoy them as much as my Leica gear. Materials, quality available colors and options are much superior from other manufacturers.

Thanks guys.

I have no doubt, from your replies AND all the others that I've read that the Luigi's cases are top notch and worth every penny from both aesthetic and quality standpoints. I'm not questioning their worth in even the slightest way. :)

But what I'm also curious about is how they each FUNCTION. How are they designed, how well does the design work, does anything annoy you, is there something about one that you feel works better than the other, what features do you like, how do they feel in your hands and while shooting, how easy is it to press buttons and work the camera while in the case?.... these are the kinds of comments I'm looking for.

One good example is what Tenor1 asked... do you wish your leicatime case had a cover like the Leica case?

Thanks!!

Mine (for M8) functions perfect, nothing annoys me. I opted for the one with the grip, every button is easily accessible, two years of daily use and just some normal wear and tear which makes the case even more handsome.
