ASpes Posted May 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 10, 2009 Does anyone have any experience with Olympus or other four-thirds lenses on the Digilux? I am interested in getting a 50MM f1.4 for candid people shots.Bill I'm using a fairly extensive set of Oly lenses on my D/3, and I assure you they work on it like a charm. With Oly even the standard level ones are optically pretty good, but of course you get what you pay, though Oly is the only case where this sometimes does not hold true, the macro 35mm being the first one that pops to my mind. In any case I hope not be flamed if I say that the current Oly glass range is the most comparable to the Leica optical quality. Mind, I said "range" and "comparable" ... :-) Anyway, if anything, as no Oly lense is stabilised, the only case I feel not that much at ease is with the bigger (in size) lenses as I find that a hand grip can be quite useful for a handheld shot and the D/3 has none. Not an issue if you use a tripod of course. As for your interest in a 50/1.4, I'm not sure I understand it, as I'm not aware of any current 4/3 lense with those exact specs. For example you can have the gorgeous Pana/Leica Summilux 25/1.4 which features an aperture ring like your kit zoom, or the Oly 50/2, a macro lens which doubles as a perfect portrait lense. For examples of portraits done with the P/L 25/1.4 you might have a look at this gallery of the late Bill Allgood: William Algood (doogla) : photos : 25mm f/1.4 Summilux Hope this helps
dwind Posted May 10, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 10, 2009 I went ahead and got the 50 - 200 swd for my d3 and it has surpassed my expectations. Hand held at fairly high shutter speed, even at 200mm it is a charm. That in combination with the 14 - 50 kit lens make a superb combination.
