skimmel Posted May 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've searched around and haven't found lots of info on this recently. Is anyone using longer focal length M lenses (e.g., 75, 90) on the G1? If so, how are the results? Any samples to post? (I posted this in the general digital section but it seems like a lot of posts on the G1 are going to the M8 forum so I'm posting here now (sorry about double posting but I think I just put in wrong forum the 1st time) Thanks. carstenw Posted May 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 8, 2009 Wow, that shot looks soft, has moiré and stair-stepping! Is it a crop or scaled down?
Ukko Posted May 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 8, 2009 Wow, that shot looks soft, has moiré and stair-stepping! Is it a crop or scaled down? Howdy Yes, but the original image is tack sharp, no moire. The attched jpg was of course scaled down. Ukko Heikkinen

carstenw Posted May 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 8, 2009 Howdy Yes, but the original image is tack sharp, no moire. The attched jpg was of course scaled down. Ukko Heikkinen To scale down nicely, don't use any sort of Apple default program, like Preview. The built-in routines used to work well, sometime in the Tiger days, and I had a nice little script which I could drop images on, and it would generate thumbnails, properly scaled images, and an HTML file for making a webpage with links to all the images, with thumbnails. Then some update or other completely broke the scaling, to give these really mushy results, completely unusable. It has remained that way ever since. I always meant to file a bug report, but never got around to it.
Ukko Posted May 8, 2009 Share #9 Posted May 8, 2009 I used a very good Lanczos algorithm. The size of the original image is 4000 x 3000 pixels, about 70 megabytes. I just stepped out and shot it in order to show that one can use longer focal length Leica lenses on the G1. Ukko Heikkinen

You can find a thread and sample using a 300mm lens here on the The GetDPI Workshop Forums. Many more threads with other lenses on that forum. Ukko Posted May 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 9, 2009 Hello again Thought I owed you this. The image is actual size, a tiny crop from the door. Please note that the mesh is dirty and not perfectly flat. Anyway, there is no moiré. Cheers, Ukko Heikkinen Welcome, dear visitor! Ukko Posted May 9, 2009 Share #12 Posted May 9, 2009 One more, again actual size. Is it sharp enough? Please remember that the picture was shot from pretty far away with a 75 mm (150 mm on the G1) lens. Cheers, Ukko Heikkinen Welcome, dear visitor!
