adan Posted November 3, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I really was No. 1 on my dealer's list for a black M8. Problem is - the first one he was allotted is silver - so the No. 3 person (who ordered silver)gets the first CAMERA. 10-14 days before the next shipment - which, I am assured, will include my black body (or A black body, for which I am No. 1 in line). Nevertheless, I have clarified that I will take the next camera available, regardless of color. I don't care about silver.vs.black much, and am willing to let fate deal me that hand. Just wish I'd specified this earlier. just venting - in a month it won't make any difference. Leica made roughly equal numbers of silver and black cameras in the first run - and the pre-orders are running about 5:1 in favor of black, according to my sources. marknorton Posted November 3, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 3, 2006 Sorry to hear that Andy, I'm very much looking forward to your prefessional feedback using it. 5:1! That explains why some dealers in Europe are said to have chrome ones in stock. You do wonder why Leica made similar quantities of each colour to start with, surely their experience of M sales must have told them otherwise? I suspect that the picture isn't as simple as "a certain proportion", but fluctuates from region to region.
ho_co Posted November 3, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2006 Interesting question. The different distribution agencies place their orders with Solms, so Solms knew how the orders were running. Maybe a question of capacity? Two lines, each with the ability of producing a certain number of cameras per day? I don't know anything about the process, but it may be that the procedure is different enough that the silver chrome line can't easily be converted to produce black chrome cameras? Ergo, full steam ahead and start filling backorders. Speculation, of course. --HC
