gfoulstone Posted April 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just purchased a second hand M8 from a Leica premier dealer. How do I register the serial number in my name? At the owners page at the Leica website I get a message indicating the serial number has already been registered. Obviously it has as the camera is second hand. Can I get to register in my name? If so does anyone know how? Thanks
Advertisement Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Hi gfoulstone, Take a look here Serial Number to my name. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Laki Posted April 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2009 i think it would be a good idea to mail/call leica and ask them, i don't think there is any way to do that on your own. as you purchased through a dealer, you might ask him to tell leica that you're the owner now. dfarkas Posted April 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2009 Leica registrations and warranties are not transferable. David
burkey Posted April 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2009 "This serial number was registered before- if you will fax a copy of your bill of sale, we will register you for used warranty" - The reply I received when I inquired with the folks at Leica in New Jersey. 'Not sure what a "used warranty" does or does not include but still worth an email. So's the free UV/IR filter I have coming from Leica based on my email inquiry. Good luck. . . . ttheinz Posted September 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2009 I have run into the same issue. Who did you email. Would you have the fax number they gave you by chance? Thanks for any help.
ho_co Posted September 15, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 15, 2009 Leica US allowed transfer of ownership, though not of warranty, when I worked for them. Simply call customer service (phone number in instruction manual). Tell them your serial number. Next step varies case by case. If the serial number has been reported to them as stolen, they can't continue the process ad hoc. If not, as stated above, they can enter you as the current owner if you can furnish proof of that fact. That may mean furnishing proof that you bought it directly from the owner previously shown in their records. It depends solely on their registration records, and only they have access to that information. (When I sell a body or lens, I have never thought to inform Leica of the transfer--have you?) Interesting that they are able to extend a 'used warranty' in this case; that would depend on what their internal records for the specific camera. Thanks In UK* Passport for the M8 was one year only; change of ownership permitted within this time frame. If you can date your purchase as older than that, I don't see why you would want Leica to know you are current owner, eg for insurance claim the receipt would be sufficient. *different in US as the above (David Farkas) posting shows
