pgk Posted April 30, 2009 Share #21 Â Posted April 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm thinking of having the mirror of my 5D trimmed - not as difficult as might be thought - I have a repairer prepared to try this on a new mirror assembly prior to fitting it. Then my 19/2.8II should fit.... . I may later consider the mod. on the MkII.

stunsworth Posted April 30, 2009 Share #22 Â Posted April 30, 2009 Remember that you won't get consistent exposure if you use an uncoupled lens on the 5D. It didn't bother me as I shot RAW and there was enough dynamic range to cope if I dialled in some -ve exposure compensation, but it might be more of a concern to others. Guest Xing Posted April 30, 2009 Share #23 Â Posted April 30, 2009 Remember that you won't get consistent exposure if you use an uncoupled lens on the 5D. Â It happens mainly at small f-stops. I find that if I don't stop down past f/8 it's a non-issue. And frankly, I tend to shoot either wide open or 1-2 stops down 99% of the time with those uncoupled lenses, because at slower stops even modest Canon lenses tend to be at least as good as the R lenses, and because stopping down is a time-killer such that only static subjects can take it. I had -2/3rd of a stop dialled into the exposure compensation and it never caused me a real problem.  I shot almost exclusively with Leica glass on Canon bodies for 2-3 years, so I can't really grumble. Oddly enough I don't remember having the same problem with a 300D or 20D.
gisling Posted April 28, 2014 Share #25 Â Posted April 28, 2014 "No wide Leica lense that fits the Canon. " Â No true. I use Leica Elmarit R19 (first version) on Canon5DII with no problem.

Iduna Posted April 30, 2014 Share #27 Â Posted April 30, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can only add here that I work with a Canon 5D MKII and a range of R lenses from the elmarit type and one Telyt. All these lenses can be mounted easily with quite a wide range of adapters. Even focus is being displayed and this feature is a help. I exchanged the focussing screen in favour of a manual screen. I think Bono has posted a list which lenses can be adapted without problems. This is the case for quite a big range of those lenses. The output in IQ is really worth all effort struggling with a manual focus etc. You'll like your results surely, try it out.
msshea Posted June 2, 2014 Share #28 Â Posted June 2, 2014 I have the Leica R 19mm Elmarit and used it with no problems on my old Canon 20D. I had to get the mirror shaved to use it on my Canon 5D; not a difficult job if you're handy with a Dremel tool, but make sure that you have a vacuum cleaner going with the nozzle as close as possible to your work area to eliminate the possibility of leaving metal bits in the mirror box. Â The mirror on my Canon 5D MKll also wouldn't clear the rear of the lens. Some people have been lucky with that though. Â Merrill
