paul chiu Posted April 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just bought a new Leica 14110, large ball and socket head. since i have the old one, #14115 from 15 years ago. i was initially puzzled by that the ball has zero lubrication on it and it's metal against the metal in the socket. it even squeaks as i turn it. my old 14115 does not squeak even now. has anyone bought a new Leica 14110 recently? it still tightens in a quarter turn as before, which is a great feature, but this noise is puzzling me. paul

Nicoleica Posted April 21, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 21, 2009 I have a 14110 that is quite a few years old, but it's never squeaked. Try putting a smear of Vaseline on yours, it may help?

Surely Leica has some exquisitely expensive elixir to solve this problem
gfspencer Posted April 21, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 21, 2009 Mine is about ten years old. It has never squeaked. If it did squeak it wouldn't be a problem for me but if you must get rid of the squeak take Nicole's advice and put some Vaseline on it . . . or maybe some graphite. RockyIII Posted April 21, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2009 I'd try a wee bit of WD-40. That's what Markins recommends for lubricating their ballheads. Rocky
