USA road racer Posted April 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My neighbor, born near Solms told me yesterday that things must be looking up at Leica. Since they have moved to the new facility, his cousin has been recalled to work at Leica! His Aunt has worked for them for 20 years. Both of them hand paint with a brush all the micro lines on the lenses & cameras. He also said that they do not consume anything with caffeine in it until they get home from work! They need a steady hand as possible! Wonder if they receive employee discounts ...?

I'll have to ask my neighbor next time I see him. He usually calls back to Germany once a week. Talks to his Mom who lives in Sun City, Az. almost daily. He's a busy guy~ FBI Special Agent. veraikon Posted April 21, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2009 I was at the CS in Solms the week before eastern. After "visiting" the CS (needed a spare part - and Solm was only a detour at my way to home) I went to the factory - it was after 16:00 and I believed that it was closed (inside the factory at the entry ther is a small museum and a shop - I wanted to visit the museum) - but even at this time all was very busy - . I had a little small talk with the lady at the information desk (about a R7 and S1 in the exhibition) and she told me that some departments are working at saturday. At the way back to the Autobahn (interstate highway) I decided to avoid the highway through Wetzlar, because it was jamed and drove through the villages and Wetzlar. At this way you pass the Leitz-Park Wetzlar and I stopped. About 50% of the planned area is build - but not the Leica part. In the finished buildings there were some substituaries like Weller Feinwerktechnik or ViaOptik (both Leica owned) and some ACM (Mr. Kaufmann) departments but no "original" Leica department. The new Leitz-Park is near the Autobahn and would be better in reach for visitors. 'll have to ask my neighbor next time I see him. ask him - world became small today. ViaOptic GmbH Uwe Weller Feinwerktechnik, Wetzlar

USA road racer Posted April 24, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted April 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry for the delay without an update. Neighbor is now where to be seen. His wife said he's on a deployment for several days. Doesn't know where he is or when he'll be home. Such is the life of a Counter Terrorist FBI Special Agent! Will post an update when I know more.
