nunnzzzz Posted April 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a relatively new D-Lux 4 and am very happy with the camera. I would like to start utilizing the RAW feature but am unsure how best to process the Raw. I have a Mac book Pro that I use as well. Does anyone have an opinion as to the best program for me to use to process the Raw?
Advertisement Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hi nunnzzzz, Take a look here D-lux4 - Raw Processing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
roberts2424 Posted April 20, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2009 There should be a copy of Phase One Capture One software that came with your camera. You can also use that or Lightroom 2 or Photoshop CS4 or anything that supports Adobe Camera Raw. Capture One comes with a lot of information online as does Adobe on how to process these files. You'll be a pro at it very quickly.
nunnzzzz Posted April 20, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 20, 2009 I just Bought Adobe Elements 6 and it does not seem to support the Dlux4....IS there any reason to upgrade from the Capture One that came with the camera to the updated capture pro that you have to pay for? thanks
roberts2424 Posted April 20, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 20, 2009 Hello. I play a little bit on the conservative side. Why not play with the regular Capture One that you received with the DL4? You'll get used to seeing what Raw files can do and after a while determine if you really need the Pro version. Also, go for (Raw + JPEG) in the menu. The file is slightly larger but you'll have both Raw and JPEG files that are associated with one another. Always work on copies of your files, never the originals. As you learn and experiment you will keep your originals safe as you go along. Remember to have fun!
ldm92 Posted April 21, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2009 ...IS there any reason to upgrade from the Capture One that came with the camera to the updated capture pro that you have to pay for? thanks I've been researching the d-lux 4 as i'm considering getting one. I read somewhere that the out-of-the-box non-pro version doesn't provide (barrel?) distortion correction but the pro version does. I'd be interested to know the facts on this. Thanks. You only need to update Adobe Camera Raw plug-in to vers. 5.3. Adobe - Camera Raw : For Windows : Camera Raw 5.3 update and Adobe - Adobe Photoshop CS4: Digital camera raw file support

ldm92 Posted April 24, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 24, 2009 According to the Adobe Web site they do process the Raw for the Dlux 4 .....but in a round about way until they come up with a new update I read their website to mean that they handle the DNG conversion differently (convert to linear DNG) for those choosing to convert the native format to DNG.
