tommycrown Posted April 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) As D-Lux 4 and Nikon D300 owner, D300 is very heavy, so I'm here looking for some advice on dSLR cam. For DL4 owners, what other cam do you carry next to your beloved DL4? I am waiting for a well built high resolution but light dSLR. I thought of getting Digilux 3 but it looks very heavy. Any advice will be grateful. Sincerely, Tommy
Advertisement Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hi tommycrown, Take a look here D-Lux 4 Owners with what dSLR cam?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
regedit Posted April 14, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 14, 2009 Beside DL4 I have and good old Pentax istDL which I use most of the time with a 50mm 1.4. The combination of body and that lens result in a very compact DSLR but now I prefer to have DL4 always with me, and just for special occasions (portraits mainly) I bring the Pentax
Guest Essemmlee Posted April 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 14, 2009 I carry a Canon 1Ds III with L glass just for supreme quality when photographing deep colours and textures in the English landscape. But the D-Lux 4 is next to brilliant and doesn't need much DSLR assistance.
Oak Bay Leica Guy Posted April 14, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 14, 2009 I have a D700 and a ton of heavy glass (mainly for sport). I got the D-Lux 4 after a great experience while travelling in Europe with the DL3. The 4 is allways with me and enables me to be creative on a whim! formernikon Posted April 14, 2009 Share #7 Posted April 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My D-Lux 4 should arrive here today, and I'll carry that most of the time. As for my other digital that I hope will now get left behind, it's a Nikon D90. I don't photograph any sports, children, fast cars, planes, or anything else where a fast focus is needed, so I'm hoping the D-Lux 4 will end up being my main camera. If it works well for what I do, I'll just buy another one as a back-up. Two D-Lux 4s are still much smaller and lighter than one D90 with a lense. bill Posted April 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 14, 2009 Olympus E-520 and a set of pro-spec lenses. The kit weighs a ton and I only use it for macro, wildlife and sports. Regards, Bill
integrale Posted April 14, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 14, 2009 As you, I have a D300 with several lenses; my prefered lens at the moment is a Nikkor 50mm 1,8 (was a bargain at less than £100 3 months ago) but the 18-200 Nikon lense is also a briliant lens and is an especially nice supplement length-wise to the rather short DL4. dwind Posted April 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 14, 2009 d700 and d300 pls a digilux 3. A lot of glass for both the Nikons. And like everyone else has said they weigh a ton. I'm strongly considering trading the d300 and glass for a m8.
simon_hughes Posted April 14, 2009 Share #11 Posted April 14, 2009 A pair of D300s for the highest IQ shots and a pair of G1s for just easy usage and carrying.
eric_e Posted April 14, 2009 Share #12 Posted April 14, 2009 I have a D200 and a few lenses. Also a D70 which I haven't used for a while. Like others I find it a hassle carrying a lot of heavy kit around. Only had the D-Lux 4 for a couple of weeks and really happy with it so far. Looking forward to taking it on holiday with me later in the year.

Ed_K Posted April 15, 2009 Share #14 Posted April 15, 2009 mine is the sony A350 with zeiss 16-80 lens, because of its bulk (not weight as it seems lighter than other makes) i only use it when i need some telephoto range which our D-lux4 sometimes miss depending on circumstances. GBR66 Posted April 15, 2009 Share #15 Posted April 15, 2009 I am also a D300 user - great for what I want it for and I will buy a D700x when/if it happens, BUT, for what you want - get a D90 and keep using your existing Nikon lenses...same image quality, lighter, and for the odd time you want it, video. Jannetje Posted April 15, 2009 Share #16 Posted April 15, 2009 Absolutely Digilux 3. Beautifil camera. But.....it's big and a little heavy. But great pictures. Get a Digilux 3 if you can. Happy shooting, Jannetje
ldm92 Posted April 22, 2009 Share #17 Posted April 22, 2009 Hi, i just qualified for this group; received my d-lux 4 today. Till now, i've been enjoying the summicron 50/2 and elmarit apo 100/2.8 on my nikon d700. Looking forward to using the d-lux 4 as a walkaround camera. Ludwig Gretch Posted April 22, 2009 Share #18 Posted April 22, 2009 A D40 is cheap now, compact, light, and works quite well with my ancient Nikkor primes. Dave. Welcome, dear visitor! pauledell Posted April 22, 2009 Share #20 Posted April 22, 2009 I have a Nikon D2Xs with 12-24 Tokina , 35-70 Nikkor, 24mm/2.8, 35mm/2.8, 55mm micro-Nikkor, 105/4 micro.. Needless to say, this is why I favor the D-Lux 4. I am continually finding that this little gem makes captures with amazing IQ (even close-ups) without the effort of carrying a backpack that weighs me down.
