andalus Posted April 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I spent most of last night going through about 2000 slides and threw out about 1000. My son helped me figure out the keepers, given his preferences. He will be the one to inherit the images, his childhood, etc. Anyway, I sent off UPS about 1000 slides to Scan Cafe, asking for RAW and JPEG files back, plus the slides, eventually. I am drifting slowly towards digital, but will never let go my MP. Anyone used this service? How long can I expect to wait? Have you been satisfied? I plan to improve the raw files in CS4, if necessary, and trans form to TIFF or DNG. Soooo, being kinda new to the digital world, what is the BEST archival format to process to from raw in CS4? Three months ago I stated scanning some of these slides myself with a Nikon SC 5000. I did about 100 and them corrected the blemishes, dust, color in CS 4. All a new, learning experience. Saved as TIFF. THEN I came across Scan Cafe and figured WTF, get all of them done professionally. Any comments, thoughts, observations thankfully welcome. stunsworth Posted April 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2009 I've never heard of them, but I would have sent a couple of dozen or so and checked the results from those before I sent them 1000. The fact that you're asking seems to indicate that you don't know how they are going to turn out.
andalus Posted April 11, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 11, 2009 Seems to have good reviews. Biz started by a couple Wharton alums. For those who have slides they want digitized in bulk, check out the website.
BobbyT Posted May 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 8, 2009 I had some B&W prints scanned by ScanCafe a few weeks back. It took For Ever to get them back, over two months total, and the quality was only fair. Unfortunately, I have no experience with any other scanning service to compare. For slides, you can have them scanned at Costco.
