PeterJWhite Posted October 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The lens coding provides data for the M8 software to correct for vignetting. That's cool. And you can pay a fee to have all of your lenses provided with new mounts with the coding added. But the coding does nothing to the files themselves, except perhaps for the in-camera jpegs? So if you're only shooting RAW, and you don't care to spend the bucks to have what in my case would be 6 lenses coded, does the software have default settings for all lenses? In other words, can you, instead of paying for lens modifications, simply tell the software what lens was used, and the software will automatically do what it would have done with the file if you had used a coded lens? PeterJWhite Posted October 30, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted October 30, 2006 So I guess they really want us to spend the money getting our lenses modified. Hmmm... Though perhaps it's not such a big issue. If all they are doing is correcting for light falloff, that's a simple fix in Photoshop. Anyone know if there are other functions for the codes? andybarton Posted October 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2006 The codes transfer some EXIF data too, IIRC. (Lens type for example)
Jamie Roberts Posted October 30, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 30, 2006 The codes transfer some EXIF data too, IIRC. (Lens type for example) ...and works with TTL flash as well. But LL review says after working with normal and coded lenses, they didn't see any difference. However, they used the new 28 2.8 ASPH, which would be coded (there aren't any uncoded versions of this), and I expect vignetting to be more of a problem "wider" than 35 on the M8...
