Don'tknowmuch Posted April 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all. I would like to buy a light yellow filter for my Elmar 35mm lens. I think I'm right in saying that it's a A36 filter I want, but am not certain about the Y1 or Y2 classification. In various pictures of the filters the Y1 looks paler and is, I assume, the Light Yellow one I'm after, but wonder if someone can spare the time to confirm this or otherwise? Thanks, Jim. Advertisement Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Hi Don'tknowmuch, Take a look here Light yellow filter for Elmar 35mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted April 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2009 IIRC the Yellow 1 is a normal yellow filter (filter factor 2x for ordinary films). Maybe you're thinking of the Yellow 0, which is a pale yellow (factor about 1.3x) that I used to leave on the lens almost all the time. I never had a Yellow 2, but guess it's a fairly dark yellow. peter_n Posted April 10, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 10, 2009 I use B+W filters. They don't include the Y designation (which as I recall had the Y1 as the weaker of the two yellows), but I use a light yellow (Y1) that has a filter factor of 1.5x, which is a ½ stop, and a normal yellow (Y2) with a filter factor of 2x which is 1 full stop. I bought the light yellow filter for a 5cm/f3.5 Elmar. I've read a post on photo.net where Y1=½ stop and Y2=1 stop so the Y1 is the one you want as it is the lighter filter.
