InspectorOyster Posted April 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The shutter on my M8 failed and the anniversary date of my purchase is tomorrow, which is a Sunday. I called and couldn't find anything out about getting an rma number. Does anyone know how they determine warrant eligibility? Is sending them an email before the expiration date enough or does it need to be postmarked by the anniversary date? Any advice from someone more familiar with Leica's policies? Ideas for Sunday shipping? Apologies if this information is easily found by a search. I'm on a boat in south Florida right and I'm working with a crashy cell phone browser. Thanks for any help. Advertisement Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Hi InspectorOyster, Take a look here Warranty Service Advice?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted April 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 5, 2009 There have been numerous shutter problems with the M8. So it is likely that they will replace it even if it is out of warranty.
glenerrolrd Posted April 5, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 5, 2009 Leica NJ has generally been very good about fixing things under warranty. I would send them an email explaining the problem and your intention to send the camera to them. You will probably not be able to ship today (pretty sure the UPS stores are closed on Sunday) . Then I would follow up Monday after you have shipped it by calling. I would not discuss the warranty date with them as this will force a decision ..rather wait to see what they do.. If they ask for payment..then you can make your case. They have been very fair and reasonable with me . I would be surprised if you have any issues. You may want to consider the shutter upgrade....I have found its a major improvement ..and you would get another year of warranty coverage.
