The images are sharper, the colors are usually more colorful (there are times when the colors look washed out), and the grainy pics look better probably because of the sensor and lens. Overall, the D-Lux 4 is superior to my PowerShots and my Sony CyberShot T-1. However, just be aware that you really do have to lower your expectations when you move from DSLR to point and shoot. While the pics are good, they really don't look anywhere near as good as most DSLR pics. If you can live with that, then you'll find that the D-Lux 4 is among the best point and shoots out there. Several pro reviewers have already stated this, but moreover my own experience as an art school student and camera geek confirms it. The D700 just totally destroys it when it comes to > ISO800 pics. I would have to say that I would choose my D-Lux 4 over my D300 for low-light stealth photos. I think anyone would. You can't hide a D300 very easily Maybe I'll do a little side by side comparison of the D-Lux 4 vs. the D300 someday. It really isn't fair to pit $3500 gear against $1000 gear. I took this image early this morning. ISO 200, 1./13th sec., f2. Image is from JPEG - Dynamic B+W. I don't believe I've ever owned a point and shoot with these capabilities. I've made 11"X14" prints from the D LUX 4 and am very pleased with the results. It goes with me everywhere as my "carry along" camera. I'm sold.
