pgk Posted March 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking around, it appears to me that R8 cameras are far more available and more numerous than R9s. i wonder if anyone has any guestimates as to the number of R9 camera bodies produced by Leica - is it destined to become a future rare collectible or are there a lot out there being held onto by satisfied owners? Advertisement Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Hi pgk, Take a look here How many R9s . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rob_x2004 Posted March 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2009 Just held onto because they are only worth two bob on the second hand market.
Stereohans Posted March 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2009 As you can see by clicking the banner of "sh photo", the last stock of new R9s is being sold for 1699/1799 Euros per camera. Prices for used "R" equipment (cameras, lenses, accessories) are as low as anyone can imagine. So at the moment you won't get much money for a used R8 or R9. If you want one, buy it NOW and have fun by using it - it's a tool, not a collectible. Greetz, Hans
pgk Posted March 24, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted March 24, 2009 Actually I was more interested to hear any views as to whether the R9 really is the pinnacle of Leica film reflex camera design. Looking through the forum it appears to me that the three film reflex cameras which are most recommended are the SL, the R6.2 and the R8. Given that the R9 is sometimes referred to as an R8.2 I wondered whether its status is simply refected by the low numbers produced and sold and whether the R9 is actually a better but undersold camera? andybarton Posted March 24, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2009 The R9 is lighter than the R8 and had additional controls and LCD displays, but is the same basic camera. It has improved flash functionality.
